Shipping a M5

p. 12 of the BMW magazine says:

"Usually, new cars en route to BMW centers are coated in wax to shield paintwork from scratches and environmental damage. Almost two and a half pounds of wax are sprayed onto each car and then removed at the final destination. This is a relatively simple, yet far from ideal, protection against scratches; removing the wax also occasionally results in the emission of fumes."

So, let's say that you order your car in the east coast and have it sent to California. Will the east-coast dealer remove the wax? Wouldn't it be better to ship the car here with the wax and have it removed locally?

How does one remove the wax?

I wonder if "the wax" is the cosmoline used to protect corrosion of the engine and undersides? Or do they use cosmoline and another type of body wax?

Cosmoline turns dark yellow and is almost impossible to remove if left on parts in the vehicles engine area. Although the M5 engine is covered well, my Merecedes V8 is open and all the "shiny" parts have this coated yellow look to them where the dealer didn't do his job very well.

As for who takes it off, I would think it would be the final destination dealer (West Coast), buts thats a guess. Just make sure they are not busy that day and do a good job...

I will find out if the car had been waxed for that purpose when it was transported from GA to CA.

When will the M5 arrive, only God knows the answer to that.
