Just thought I would pass along the good news... The Dynavin N6 is now DSP compatible in the US. It's been working in Europe for the past couple of months, but as of a few days ago, it's now functional in the US. No longer do you have to spend $3k with tons of complicated wiring to run an aftermarket system in your M5. As of September 5th:
Hi Blake,
Dynavin forwarded your email to me. As of this morning we have the dsp amp working in a us spec car (they have been working overseas for months). Dynavin will be shipping units with the revised dsp interface starting next week.
Thanks,

but to be fair the dsp removal / amp install is a little over hyped i just did it last week for the avin unit and it was far easier than thought... all these threads made it seem so bad. and the cost was a few hundred bucks all said and done.
i'de like to see some videos on the windows interface on these units vs the android ones.
For those of us that don't know what a E46 head unit looks like.... any photos?? (yes, I am being lazy but if I look for won I would not be sure if it's THE one you are referring to)... Thanks
Not to get too far ahead of myself, but does anyone know if the fittings for the two knobs are the same? If I have the stainless (Diny) knobs, will they fit on just as well?
Exciting! I was driving to the airport yesterday and was thinking how great it would be if someone offered a head unit solution that was DSP compatible. I have no interest in adding an amp and so on, but I'd love to have some modern conveniences and a Nav that looks like it was produced this century. I honestly figured we would never see it considering how old these cars are now.
The older E39 Dynavin with the smaller screen looks horrible. The newer unit with the larger screen looks better, but I agree that the E46 pulls it off better. Compare the pics at the link below with the pics in the install guide on that same page...
*edit* - Maybe the screen size is the same and they just centered it (and the buttons) better from top to bottom? Either way it seems to eliminate that huge blank panel at the top that looks so terrible.
** This is a video from a US-based reseller, NOT from Dynavin themselves, despite the "Dynavin USA" name. This guy is a competitor of Jeff's and I don't mean to cause a problem by posting it here, but it's really a great video. IMHO, Jeff's service before and after the sale simply can't be beat and assuming I buy one of the E39 N6 models, it will most definitely be from Jeff.
I emailed them, looking into getting one for my 2000 M5, my head unit took a dump, it has been remaned numerous times in past by previous owners..time to nut up or shut up!!!
Not sure that it matters these days as everyone has transferred their CD's to their digital library, but one of the comments was that it does not support the OEM CD changer.
I think for those who want to retain the CD Changer they will stick with an OEM unit. I still have mine and use it, but if it ever fails, now I know I have a decent option to upgrade. I have never been impressed with the previous Dynavin units, but this ones finally looks promising.
Yeah man, the BT phone and music is a big plus in my book. Updated Nav graphics is also a big step up. I not much of a fan of the OS, and I think the other units running android look far better and are customizable, I would sacrifice it to be able to have DSP plus the features of the unit.
I will probably just wait until my head unit dies and see where the market is at. Now that I say that, it will probably smoke and blow up on the way home from work today.
Yes it works... It took a bit of work, but we once we got past the 40 second mark (before the DSP amp would shutdown) :biggrinbounce: I knew we had a new option. The phone and A2DP integration is fantastic. It's been just less than a week with it and I'm slowly playing with more options as I get more familiar with the unit. And for those that don't like the DSP you can get an amp and crossovers to add to your system.
Yup... You can leave all the other components in place if you want. You need to connect the Dynavin harness to the connector that went from the DSP to the Tuner and the antenna cable.
This is claiming full ODBC integration? I thought the older ones didn't even do that. Interesting. Also uses a good quality DAC, but maybe that doesn't matter that much since we're all keeping our ****ty oem speakers haha. I'm not very far along in assembling pieces for my Nexus build, so I'm not sure what to think of all this. Hmm...
Is there a way to activate Siri through the unit or steering controls? For example, the Audiovox/Dice Mediabridge allows iPhone users to activate Siri by pressing the phone button on the steering wheel.
The steering wheel controls work great... Can't help about Siri... The ***** and I got divorced a couple of years back for irreconcilable differences... :byebye:
Selling point is the BT and upgraded nav, not to mention the apps . Compared to my original head unit ( 2000 model ) this will be a big change. r2t2k2 can you confirm that the car's audible warning chimes still work ? ( door ajar warning, etc... )
The BT is seamless and the nav is better than before. The menus and features are more intuitive... At least they are for me. The key being... Can I program stuff w/o the manual? So far, so good.
And all the stinkin' chimes still work! Sometimes too well...

This may also be a stupid question, but the info that you see on the Nav screen now (specifically Fuel consumption, distance to empty, etc) is all still available on the cluster, correct?
Dynavin Android seems like a terrible solution though because it's split into 2 different discrete ecosystems: radio/cd/bluetooth streaming, and android. It wasn't all seamlessly run just through Android.
I would have been more correct about the OS... The DynaOS is based off of the Windows Mobile OS. Like Dish Network and DirecTV created their own OS based off of Linux.
