Do different name brand "Headers" all weigh differently or similar in weight?

Hi Guys,
I would like to get the headers for the car, so Im wondering if the different name brand headers basically weight the same or do they very in weight, due to the quality of the metal and its thinkness. I noticed on BeastPower's site the SuperSprint headers have a wall thickness is 1.5mm. Are the name brand headers equal in the wall thinkness, thinner (cheaper, no good) or possibly thicker walls. Does thinker walls mean it would be better, Im not sure, so maybe someone can fill me in, on this and anything else I should know on the overall quality of headers. I heard and was told that the Dinan headers are a heavier gauge of tubing, thus weighing a little more than the competitors.
thanks.
Robert

Re: Do different name brand "Headers" all weigh differently or similar in weight?

Good question!

The thing I'd be worried about is cracking due to vibration. Rust issues are might be secondary. Steel tubing (stainless or ferrous) tends to fatigue & crack in header & exhaust applications due to heat levels, heat cycling and harmonic vibration. Headers have the biggest problems because they see the most temp change and vibration.

Each type of alloy displays it's own characteristics & the header mfr should be able to share this info with you. You might compare specs to other proven exhaust products. Lots of premium exhaust companies experienced problems over the years (requiring redesign and/or recall), so a specialty header application (no matter how expensive) could have issues.

No answers, sorry.

Called Dinan today about the wall thickness of their headers. I was told that the thickness is .065 thick.
What does this mean? If this figure were to be translated to metric size mm, what would it be???
Any one know?
Thanks.

Hey Robert,

If we assume, that there are 25.4 mm per inch than,

.065 x 25.4 = 1.651 mm

Allowing for innacuracy, its most likely 1.5 mm the same as the others.

Re: Do different name brand "Headers" all weigh differently or similar in weight?

Thanks Mark. I feel better knowing that Dinan's header is the same gauge as the SuperSprint header wall thickness. I can't afford the Dinan headers so Im sure I'll get the S.S. headers but was worried that they might have skimped on the thinkness of thir metal. Appears to be fine, based on your calculations.
Thank you my friend.
You heard about Triflow/Rob from Florida's situation, right? He's no longer part of the message board.

If I hear back I will let both you and Mark know..
