Titanium silver isn't listed; I believe it was introduced in 2000.

Cheers.

Great summary, it would be fun to have a facts section like some people are mentioning. Keep up the good work.

I see #13 color is "Rasberry Red". We seem to be missing "Lemon Yellow", "Orange Orange", and the rabbit from the old Trix cereal ad...

Bill,
I tried to bite my tongue for as long as possible, but in the end I couldn't resist. So I have to add to what you said..... "Silly rabbit, Trix are for kids" And M5's are for slightly bigger kids. Like us!!!

And Lscman,
Thanks a lot!! Now you have me checking out every lavender car I see. Unfortunately there are still quite a few still around here. Ahhh, I can't ignore them! I owe you one!

Re: M5 E39 Body Style S62 engine FACTS...Long

Great info, thanks.

Just being curious, why didn't the NA cars come with the floating front discs, like the rest of the world M5.

Re: M5 E39 Body Style S62 engine FACTS...Long

V-10 4 Me,

That is one excellent post.

Just to make it even more correct, here are a few things:

There is a major deifference between European M5s and US: The bloated US
dashboard panels.

There are at least two sighted touring M5s, one in Germany and one in the
US.

The trim panels are not Aluminium, those are Titanium.

The 18" wheel finish is called Shadow Chrome.

The wheel arches are wider than the standard E39.

The M5 is actually 2 mm taller than the standard E39, although the larger
wheels make it look as if it was lower. (The lowering of the suspension relative
to the body, is more than consumed by the increase in wheel diameter.)

ASC means Acceleration Stability Control.

From factory the cars were equipped with Michelin Pilot Sport I tyres, or
Dunlop Sport SP 8080 tyres.

There were important changes to the Vanos system:

Starting November 2000 the M5s got Vanos oil pressure accumulators
installed from factory.

Starting mid July 2000 (engine number 60232305) got Vanos spline-shafts
with improved tolerances.

Starting mid September 2001 (engine number 60572609) got new
stronger Vanos spring discs and thinner pressure plates.

The front seats have two additional heater elements on the sides of the
deeply contoured sports seat. (Those sport seats normally only have two
heater elements: back and seat. Them M5 has back, seat and sides.)

So its a little weird.
