I have a 00' M5. My car was purchased on the East Coast, I live on the West Coast. Nav disc needs to be replaced.
I have a co-worker, a lady M5 owner, who has a 03' M5. Can I burn her nav disc and use it on my 00' M5 for Nav? I think its not possible from what I have read, but can't remember though.
Thanks a bunch,
Bojan

Her nav system might be DVD-based, and if it is, then that obviously won't work. If hers is CD-based then it might work.

If it is DVD based, couldn't I somehow burn it and then save it as a CD-Rom based format. Not sure If I explained that all to well, but you know what I mean. It would seem that I could do that, correct??
Thanks,
Bojan

I'm not sure what a new Nav CD costs, but I can't say that I like the idea of burning a copy of someone else's CD. Of course, I'm opposed to stealing music as well.

I just bought one. Nav disks are about $100.

I never said I was going to do it, Im just curious how you would do it. Come on now, We don't need to get too serious on the legalities of the subject. Just a simple question.
But yes, I agree, stealing is bad. Music stealing is bad as well. But Nav stealing is perfectly fine in my opinion. lol

Did you buy a new disk for updates? Are there any improvements other than more recent maps?
Thanks
Unfortunately I cannot answer the question; this is the forst Nav disc I've had. I bought it because the dealer from whom I purchased my car lost my Nav Disc (apparently their policy is to remove things like the phone, nav disc, space keys, documentations, etc. until the car is sold - but in my case they lost all of those things and never did locate them in the dealership).
But instead of just buying one and replacing it for me, they made me go buy one and then they rembursed me for it. Not particularly what I expected in terms of BMW service, but at least I got a Nav disc. Sorry

No. A CD has nowhere near the capacity of a DVD. Your friend's DVD contains maps and data for the entire country. The CD-based system uses 8 different CDs for each of the 7 USA and one Canada regions. The DVD-based system uses a single disc for everything. It won't work.
2001 540i 6-Speed
StopTech 4-wheel big brake upgrade (ST-60 front/ST22 rear)
M5 3.15 Limited Slip Differential M5 Front Swaybar
Dinan Stage 3 Suspension
Dinan Front Strut Tower Brace
Rogue Octane Short Shifter & Transmission Mounts
European Dash Conversion CDV Deleted (of course!)
Bluetooth, NAV-TV, DVD Player

See, this is the answer I was looking for. Thanks.
And yes, I am going to suck it up, I’ll pay. It's just a convenience factor of being able to get the disc immediately. It wasn't about stealing and getting it illegally. It was right there for my taking, so I thought it may be possible.
Thanks guys for the info. I'll "legally" buy it. Sheesh. lol
