Good News! You can buy ext. maintenance to 6/100!

This was taken from Bimmerfest, thanks to the original poster for this info.

------------------------------------

BMW has just announced the Maintenance Upgrade plan to either 4yrs/50k miles or 6yrs/100k miles. This will be available from January 12, 2004.

This will cover all factory recommended maintenance as listed in the BMW Service and Warranty Information Booklet for the selected plan. Wear items such as brake pads and rotors, external engine drive belt, wiper blade inserts, clutch discs and any adjustments required due to normal operating conditions will be covered.

To qualify for either program your BMW must be a 2000 - 2002 model and be currently covered by and existing (not expired) maintenance (3yr/36k or 4yr/50k) program.

Costs:
BMW Maintenance 3/36 to 4/50
MY 2000 - 2002, 6cyl, $399

Re: Good News! You can buy ext. maintenance to 6/100!

I wonder how this compares to the cost of doing all the inspections and oil changes yourself or at a dealer over the course of the warranty.

Has anyone looked into this? $1644 seems steep for what will probably amount to a few oil changes and a few inspections!?!

Good eye Chris- Im definately interested, but I have yet to figure out if this is a good deal. I wonder if they will do this for 03 cars in a year.

Re: Good News! You can buy ext. maintenance to 6/100!

I'm upset now. The early enthusiasts of M5's who waited on waiting lists for 2 years just got screwed! I had to settle for a Ford warranty cause the beast is 4 years old now and dealers told me there were no options.

I'm glad to hear the majority of you will now have an option but I think I'm through waiting on lists to have the first model.

Re: Good News! You can buy ext. maintenance to 6/100!

What about taking the warranty out to 6/100 as it would be on a certified pre-owned? They should sell that to current owners as well who want to keep their cars......until the new M5 arrives.

With these extended service intervals it sounds marginal to me unless your clutch bites the dust.

I just want to clarify - does the car still have to be under the maintenance program, or can it just still be under warranty ? The reason I ask is that my maintenance program is 3 years/36K miles, but the warranty is 4 years/50K miles. I have about 34,700 miles on the car now, so I would need to act fast if it still has to be under the maintenance program.

Thanks.

Re: Good News! You can buy ext. maintenance to 6/100!

From what I have read so far, your car does have to be under maintenance if you want to buy it. So for many MY2000-2001 owners, this isn't going to be of much help

BUT I thought I would post it for anyone who might still be lucky and under the maintenance agreement.

As far as MY2003 goes, that's a good question. Nothing has been mentioned yet. I'm sure we'll hear more in the upcoming weeks as there are a lot of '03 owners out there who are considering this too.

ME brings up a great point -- is this worth it? Well a full brake job is about $1000 where I live, and a coolant flush is about $100. What else would get done under the 6/100? A couple of inspections perhaps?
