V1 Hardwire - getting wire past HPS airbag for remote display?

Hi all:

I've found numerous how to articles on hardwiring the V1, and that is the easy part. What I'm concerned about is getting the signal wire for the remote display unit (I want to place it on the "deck" in front of the gauge cluster) past the driver's side HPS airbag. I don't want to mess with the airbag itself and I don't want to block its functionality should I ever need to use it.

Any tips on getting the black phone wire down past the airbag without disturbing its functionality?

Thanks

Re: V1 Hardwire - getting wire past HPS airbag for remote display?

Ive run it by just tucking it into the HPS cover. Will that mean the little remote display and possibly the main unit get pulled out on deployment? I am not 100% sure. I do hope not! I am not away of any other way of doing this.

Re: V1 Hardwire - getting wire past HPS airbag for remote display?

I gently snugged the wire from the headliner into the HPS cover along the windshield down to the dash. Toward the bottom as you approach the dash, there is a split in the cover, and I gently sugged the wire into that split to bring it from the windshield side to the driver door side of the A pillar. From there, with the driver door open, you can easily route it around and under the dash. I then brought it into the dash guage area by routing it up on the left side where the steering column meets the dash. I'm not too concerned about what will happen if the HPS deploys. The remote is small and light, and given its location I don't expect it would fly up to my head. More likely, the wire (if it even gets in the way) probably would just snap from the explosive nature of the HPS deployment. That being said, I hope to never find out what happens....

Actually my concern is based not on where the remote will fly off to, but whether the wire will prevent the HPS from deploying properly. One of the main reasons I bought my M5 is for safety, and keeping that airbag from going off would be a bad thing.

Thanks for your tips. I will check it out and see how I can route this properly.

Re: V1 Hardwire - getting wire past HPS airbag for remote display?

There is no way the V1 wire should interfere with the HPS deployment. The bad has extreme pressures behind it when it explodes and I do not see how the wire could prevent the deployment or time of the deployment of the bag. I do not think you need to worry about it.
