Another snow day: pics of the M5 snow plow

New England has been pounded with yet another snow storm. I decided to take some pictures of my car from tonight. The air dam did a great job of plowing snow, FYI. The brake ducts, i am certain, helped me carve thorugh the snow drifts....

Enjoy because I most certainly did not.

You can actually see the snow on your car melt away

I can't believe you still take your car out in all this snow...
invest in a beater car...or at least something that is front wheel drive...hehe

glad to see your car safe...

Hey Chris,

Good pics... I also drive my car year round but so far have resisted putting "snows on".. however I cabbed to the train station Monday through Thursday last week because the plows did not do a good job in clearing the streets.

However.. made it just fine today even after the 6 inches we got Sunday.

Personally I think that good snow tires on an M5 will give you as much drivability as a SUV with all season tires.

The problems I've had with Sports cars and the snow(while using Blizzacks):

1) High centering

2) Wheels get clogged up with snow.

3) SUV's getting upset since they still can't get ahead of you.

I have to say that seeing the beast like this really hurts.

She looks just a little weathered in this pic kinda like the face of a climber battling Everest or something

Time for a beater?

Regards,

Terk.

Yuck, not a pretty site Chris. Snow will not hurt anything though, so I would not worry about too much. You definately were not kidding when you said you car needed some TLC. I also think if the Massachusett's plow union ever does go on strike, owners of E39 M5s have a good shot at making some quick cash by clearing the streets down to 3 inches with their front spoiler .

Nice pics. Poor beast

Actually, it's not the snow or traction issues that compels me to hibernate my beast for the Winter, it's all the sand, gravel and salt that the city and highway road crews put down.
Hope you wash her frequently, especially the undercarriage

From personal experience, I would say that this is not true. I used to think the same though until I started using my brother's X5 with all-seasons on it. The X5 BY FAR was the better car in the snow. The AWD makes a world of difference when the snow is really heavy. In fact, my car couldn't even make it out the driveway some days but the truck just muscled through. And my M5 has snows on as well.
