with all this talk about Dinan, Dinan is re-designing their headers for the Z8 car...

Hi Guys,
When I was speaking with the Dinan corporation the other day with regards to the Dinan 3.45 rear diff. group buy, the topic of discussion changed to Dinan's headers. I was told that Dinan was designing/making completely new headers specifically for the Z8 roadster car. Dinan is completely aware of the Z8 "mangle/hack job" which was done to a few Z8 roadster cars, when the headers were installed into these cars. The headers by the way were actually/specifically designed for the M5 sedan.
What impressed me is that Dinan is acknowledging the problem at hand, and taking complete responsibility, and has made promises to all who have had their Z8 roadsters damaged during the header installation job, and remedy/repair any damages done, as a result of the Dinan headers not fitting correctly.
Its good to know Dinan isn't hiding or avioding the Z8 tpoic or trying to bury the issue with back stroking mumbo-jumbo non-sense talk. So, newly designed headers will be coming soon for the Z8 boys.
Robert

Whether good or bad, a fine company stands beside their work, even if it means a lot of wasted money and time. Dinan sure learned a lesson on that header issue, but to me it shows what a dedicated company will do when they make a blunder as big as that one. I think it was a horribly illogical thing to do in the first place, but at least Steve is going to make good on the issue.

I agree, this puts faith back into Dinan for me as a company. Cheers to Dinan

I'm sorry, but I dont share the same positive feelings.

I think they could have discussed the matter with the car owners before they did the work. I also think they know the word is out and they have no choice but to acknowledge it.

I was about to pull the trigger on those dinan strut braces, but I am skipping them because I cannot live with myself if I were to put money in the pocket of a company like that.

I agree with MEnthusiast...

I do admire Dinan somewhat for dealing with the problem, however those cars are permanently damaged with no recourse in regards to repair. There is no way to fix the problem aside from replacing the car somehow.

im 100% with hbramstedt and menthusiast on this one,

too little too late. the fact that dinan waited until they were caught red handed to make good on redesigning the headers and repairing customers cars speaks volumes about their priorities. dinan should have told their customers about the hack job that they were doing in order to make the headers fit, nothing can excuse this. the fact that they were not forthcoming with this information, and then only decide to repair the Z8s after a big fuss was made points directly to a lack of integrity. why did they wait until the damage was made public to make the repairs? is Dinan really trying to tell us that they didnt know what damage they were doing until pictures were posted on the internet, then realized that they should repair the z8s?

I should say that for the record, at least one of the Z8 owners affected by this has said he is completely fine with Dinan's solution to the problem. Still, I have formed my own opinion and I have yet to be convinced otherwise.

Fair enough Jerry, as that issue hits closer to home with you than I (my Jetta isnt exactly a Z8). Once again I do feel it's a huge blunder to do it in the first place, but it's better than letting it happen, and then washing your hands of the situation. It is too little too late, and I 100% agree with that statement, but the fact that he is willing to loose a lot of money to fix his hack jobs rather than screwing his customers says something.
It's been awhile and I dont fully remember all the details, but wasnt Steve himself not aware that poping those few welds would revoke the warranty/compromise the structural integrity of the E52 chassis? I'm not trying to make excuses for him, he screwed the pooch bad on that one, and I am suprised that it didnt completly sour his buisness. I would hate to have done something like that myself, only to look back and myself. Good luck to those with Z8 S2's that still need to be fixed.

But I thought the headers were 8k because they did such extensive R&D. What a load of crap. Give me a set of Mustang headers and with the 7500 in change I'll make them fit any car you like.

I don't own a Z8.. but I completely agree here .. who knows whether SD would have called the owners months afterward to say," hey guys, we made a little mistake and need to rectify it, please bring your cars in at your earliest convenience... "

Not for me thanks..
