Talked with Tubi Style Today...

...well, actually with Frank at Tubi. I had some questions concerning the product, as I am thinking of becoming a distributor. Here is what I found out. Many of you may know this already, so I apologize if this is old hat. Tubi is BIG in the Ferrari market (80% ot be exact). Made in Italy, they feel their product to be the M5 of the exhaust world. There are 10 systems in stock in the US now and they have sold 8 already. I was asked to be a guinea pig and try out one of their systems. In the US, there is only one M5 setup. Frank pretty much guaranteed that I would be satisfied. Interesting as I was pretty close to doing the B&B as were about 4 others I had talked to already. So, I am considering this VERY heavily. IF I do this, I will do a before install dyno, and then an after, just to see if there is any gain. How about a show of hands of those that might be interested, if all goes well with mine, in one of these setups? Retail on these is $2500 clams so she is not a cheap date. I would also value ANY and all feedback from those that might already have this system and what you paid for it (US). I will update once I decide if I will proceed. Thanks all!

Dave,
I believe that MICA GARDNER has a Tubi system that he was in the process of installing. He has not gotten back to the group about the installation yet! You might want to contact him about it, I sent a reply to his post but haven't seen a reply yet.
Someone on his post about the Tubi system had a website where you could order the system. I believe there were 2 different systems, the loud one costs $1999 and a slienced one for $2199, both including shipping if I'm not mistaken.
I'm interested in the system, as it seems to be a true cat back, bolt on system where you could put back the old exhaust if you wanted to return the car back to stock. As I suggested to MICA, it would be interesting to see the weight difference between the two systems because Dinan claims almost a 30 pound savings over stock mufflers. Getting rid of the large resonators should make a huge difference! The only concern that I have about dumping the resonators is that there seems to be a crossover tube connecting the left and the right sides of the exhaust, would it affect performance?
Anyway, keep us informed on what's happening!

Dave,

Are you considering the "loud" or the "silent" version? I e-mailed Tubi some time ago, questioning them about the two versions offered for the M5, but never got a response. I like the quality and finish of the Tubi's but I'm confused regarding the two versions. How loud is loud and how silent is the silent?

There is only one option available in the US. I am not sure which one that is, but I would guess it to be the silenced version? That price shipped sounds too good to be true. I will search for that. Thanks.

Dave,
Check out this old thread http://www.bmwm5.com/ubb/Forum1/HTML/003084.html Mica (who has since vanished from this MB) said he bought the loud version for about $2000 from www.technikonline.com
I remember going to this site and seeing both versions available, but the loud was back ordered.
On that thread you'll notice BryanG in Miami says he installed a Tubi. You should drive down there and take a listen.

Dave,

I was contacted by Tubi a month ago. They have discontinued the "loud" version of the exhaust system here. The "silenced" version is the only option today. I have a B&B that I purchased with the group buy a couple of months ago. It is not installed yet because I am waiting for my new MY2001 to arrive in May.

Now, I could be convenced to sell the B&B if the Tubi is that good. I believe the fit and finish of the Tubi are very good. Is it worth the extra $1500 over the B&B? I am not sure that this is an easy question to answer.

The B&B has a very nice sound, you can hear it when you want to hear it, but it is not intrusive under normal cruise conditions.

Keep me informed. Thanks,

Mark

I think what I am going to do is go ahead with the "test Tubi"...sorry, I could not resist that one...the loud version is no longer offered here. Once I get mine on I will do some mpg's of the car at idle, and then at take off and a drive by or two. Then again, the sound will vary depending on what you listen to it on. If I like the system, I will become a dealer for their product. If I dont, it will be for sale. LOL. Will keep you posted. I plan on ordering it this week.

I must say I'm extremely disappointed to hear that you can't get the loud version any more. None of the other exhausts I've heard are loud enough for my tastes -- why spend $2k for mostly the same sound and slightly different looks? The loud Tubi was my only hope.

Now I guess I've gotta consider the Kelleners export version . . .

MWM,
Before you give up hope, wait until I get this thing on and get some sound clips. Then, we can all pass judgement...LOL. I will also try to arrange some dyno runs, although I dont expect much if any gain.

I say push back a little bit and see about testing a loud version. They may give in if a few of us are lined up to buy it.
