Gonna sell the Porsche. Nobody knows but you.

I apologize in advance to anyone (especially those of you who don't know me) for a "for sale" announcement here - but I thought given our history, you might indulge me. We can move this to the for sale forum soon.

The market hasn't been very kind to us over the last 3 years, so cash is tight. So - although it pains me to take the huge depreciation hit (remember when I got it?) - my baby is going on the block. I doubt its value will ever go UP.

This will save me insurance, maintenance and storage costs - and ensure I have the cash reserve to get a new M5 or M6 (still not decided) as soon as I can get one at list - which I figure will be somewhere late '04 or early '05.

I love the car. You know it has been meticulously maintained and never abused. All services performed, and then some. All records available. Every problem it ever had has been fixed. It has never been smoked in, never been to the body shop. It has a year of warranty left (I'm pretty sure - have to double check). Has new DV's, fresh ATE Super Blue brake fluid. Mechanically strong and perfect. Includes SmartTire system and prewired for V1. Believe it or not, I have to go pay it a visit to see how many miles are on the odo - but I believe it is around 20K. Has a reasonably new set of Pirellis. Clear side markers (you can have the ambers too.) a set of "show only" Turbo floor mats (given to me by a friend, they've been in the car 1 day.) The car has its '94 CA reg already paid.

It is NOT "garage-queen-pristine" - there are teeny tiny pits on the hood from gravel strikes. There is a small door ding (can't remember where - car isn't here tonight) - but nothing dentless wouldn't get out. The factory mats show wear. The brake rotors have slight surface cracking - pretty normal for a P car that has actually had the brakes used. They are not severe. I have a set of Pagid Oranges that have another session or two in them - I'll throw those in too. Oh yeah, and a SpeedLingerie bra.

Title is free and clear of course, I have the pink slip. According to Kelly Blue Book it is worth between 84 and 89K on a trade, between 90 and 95 on a direct sale. I haven't shopped it around at all - but I knew from the moment I started thinking about it that I wanted to offer it to you before anybody else. If you're interested, please contact me privately. I'm in no rush. First reasonable offer - it goes. But I won't market it elsewhere for at least a week or two.

But as you pioneered on this site to BUY a 996 Turbo you are the pioneer to sell it, maybe for a new E60 M5? Maybe and hopefully this will be the new trend :

M5 -> 996 Turbo -> E60 M5.

I had the chanse to go with Greg's Turbo to Lake Tahoe (I didnt drive) and he treated it better than I've or anyone else Ive ever known treating his cars.

Here is Gregs now almost "classig" test when he bought it:

Oh my God, what have I done?

Im sure you wont have any problem selling this beauty Greg!

Here is Greg great comparison of the M5 and the Porsche:

M5 / 996TT Comparison, as promised.....

greg- I am sorry that you haved to sell it, but this shows a lot about you, being able to give up such a prized possesion. I know how it is, having to cut back on costs since the economy hasn't been so great lately, my family had to do it also.

Looking at it on the bright side, now your full attention is aimed at the M5, and it is an unbeleivable car!

Have a good one,

-Travis

Greg:

I am sorry to hear the bad news. Fortunately, you still have the M5 to enjoy. I am sure you will be back into another sports car in the not to distant future once this economy comes back.

Greg,

If I was in the market, I would head up there and pick it up. I read your comparison test webpage. You should consider freelance writing for a car mag. Your writing style and clarity surpasses many of the articles written in the car mags. Seriously.

I hope you find the right buyer.

Sorry to hear about the sell. With any luck there will be an E60 just around the corner.

Interestingly enough, I have a photo of my old M5 in that exact spot on Pescadero beach from nearly the same angle. Of course your compostion is better but I can feel your pain.

Best of luck with the sale. Be sure to post it on 6speed, rennlist and funcars. Unless the market in CA is inflated for turbos, it will be difficult to get over 90 with 20K. Keep us informed!

greg, sorry that you have to sell it....sounds like you have thought things through pretty carefully though, good luck with the sale.

while we appreciate giving this board first 'dibs' it's still your asset that you want to move and i wouldn't wait too long before going to the other sites listed above...
