....goes into service. Drove her off the showroom floor 10/29/03. Jet Black with black leather, wood trim, M audio, and 63 miles on the clock (20 of which were my test drive). I have to admit it hasn't quite sunk in yet. Knowing I'm limited on how much power I can apply right now I can tell I'm in for a real treat in the near future when the break in period is over.
Let me apologize in advance for the rookie questions that will be coming in the future.
The information posted on this forum has played an important roll in my decision; thanks to you all.
One thing though, how do I wipe this stupid grin off my face?

Glad to hear you have found the car you wanted, and let it bring you many miles and years of good service. Dont worry about the noobie questions, people here all were noobs at some point (I am still one), and the knowlegeable people here love helping out other beast owners. Enjoy the new beast, and post some pics when you get a chance!

My recommendation is to sign up for the M5 Driving Experience as soon as your schedule will allow, during the break-in period, so that you will be able to truly appreciate the awesome capabilities of your machine without delay.

I know you are in for a good time James.

Don't know how you plan on breaking your car in. The majority of the board members have two views and it is a personal thing but if you want to follow the advice in the owner's manual you should notice the M5 has a second extended restriction.

Just as there are differences in how others have gone about this, there are differences in how much oil each owner's car uses. Therefore keep an eye on the dipstick.

Last words of advise on oil level, checking the level is not as simple as in other cars. Again, if you do not follow recommend procedures in the manual you will have false results when you check the oil.

Congrats on the new M5!! Like was stated earlier, sign up for the M5 Driving Experience. It is an awesome way to learn to drive your M5 the way it was meant to be driven. That school is the entire reason I am on a quest to get my own M5.
