New Nav CD

I got the new nav CD in the mail a couple of months ago, and ever since the nav system no longer tells me what side of the street my destination is on. Has anyone else expierenced this?

I liked that feature and it appears to be gone with the new CD.

Brian,

I too have a 2000 M5 and when my new nav cd came, it continued to work as before. If you still have your old cd, run a comparision. I doubt it would be hardware related; you'll then have to get in touch with the software company. I hope what little info I've provided helps.

hmm.. my 01 BMW nav computer never said which side of the street my destination is on.. However, on my 01 Range Rover, which uses Navtech CDs as well, it does tell you that... I think it might be just the Nav system software.. not the CD... did you get your nav system updated by BMW?

When I originally got it with the first CD it told me the side of the stret "You have arrived, the destination is to your left." After putting in the new cd all I get is "You have arrived." I have not had any other updates or modifications to the system. I will put the old cd back in and see if I get the "Right/Left" back, but I do not know if I like the more current map info or the side of the street information. Ideally I should not have to choose.

Randy:

Search this board for the info on the Nav CD. You'll find the latest software version and instructions on how to determine which version you have. If you do not have the latest version, your dealer can install it at no charge. It does make route calculation faster but only slightly so.

Also, don't confuse Nav software updates with Street Map updates. The street map updates have nothing to do with the speed of the Nav system. I sure hope they upgrade the hardware processor and go to a DVD format for the nav unit in the next edition of the M5.

How often are street map updates produced? Do we get them automatically? Do they come out at the same time for all regions? Have I asked enough questions?

You get one update with the car that should arrive about 6 months from when you bought the car. You can buy updates from Navtech.com. I think they update them every six months.

My '01 M5 does not tell which side of the street the destination is either. My '00 540i used to always say it as part of the navigation. However, I'm not complaining because the new NAV is much much much faster, with no errors!
