Well ... After better than a month of driving around with a SuperSprint X-Pipe and the Stock Cans (mufflers) ... and having my brand new Tubi Exhaust, sitting in boxes, just waiting for the X-Pipe test to be over ... The timew has finally come for me to install the much talked about and much touted Tubi Exhaust.
Yesterday was an exciting afternoon over at Renn-Sport where I decided to have the Tubi Installed. YES ... The same vendor that I purchased my X-Pipe from as well as the Tubi Exhaust system. The primary reason ... in fact the only reason, that I had Renn-Sport do the install was so that they could have first hand knowledge to hear what the Tubi sounded and felt like.
It was a BEAR of an install. What normally should take roughly 1.5 hours ... took almost 4 hours ... plus alot of "High Anxiety!"
I won't bore you all with the details of the anxious moments of the install ... "It'll Fit" ... "****-it - It won't fit" ... "Motha-Fu$ka - This exhaust is too **** short" ... "No It's too long" ... "Crap - The Fu--ing mounting brackets are in the wrong place" ... "No ... Who cut of this **** piece of pipe right next to the cats" ... are just some of the quotes that went along with the install ...
The bottom line is ... This morning I had to take my beast ... with a 1" exhaust leak on both sides to my favorite Muffler Shop ... Pepe @ AAA Muffler in Los Angeles ... To have Pepe weld on about a 2" piece of steel right next to each of the Cat-Sensors so that eveything would fit properly. I even had these very cool exhaust clamps from BMW - Motorsport that I could not use becuase they would not fit over the Tubi piping. Tubi makes their connections 2.5" instead of 2.25" that BMW recommends. Oh well ... Those Italians can't think of everything.
My initial feeling after having everything fix as it should be was ... this exhaust is ... "TOO QUIET" ... This is the same sound as the stock M5 Exhaust System.
For those of you who are currently going to have your Tubi system installed and expect to hear a dramatic sound change from the Stock system ... You are in for a rude awakening.
As a matter a fact ... I honestly cannot tell the difference in sound between the Stock Exhaust System and t Tubi Exhaust System.
PLEASE ... You must remember that for the last month ... I have been driving with an X-Pipe and the Stock Mufflers and that ... I believe that the system with the X-Pipe will be louder and have a bigger "ROAR" than the Tubi System. It seems quite obvious because of the resonators or the lack of in the case of the X-Pipe.
I remember someone saying that after you put on your Tubi System ... "You'll have to drive it for a week or two t let all the factory goop blow out of the system. It wiil get louder"
Hmmmm ...
I wonder ... I hope so ... Be back in about a week or two!
I cose wisely, getting the Kelleners cans instaed of the TUBI exhaust. When I originally did my research, it came down to Kelleners or possibly Tubi. Well that was then and now being the present date, Kelleners and the X-Pipe are theee perfect combination!!!!!!! Just my 2cts.

I am sorry to hear that installation was such a problem. I witnessed the installation first hand on my M5, and it was a breeze. ELEVENS installed the Tubi himself and he seemed to find it easy.
Regarding the sound level, IMO, it sounds very different from the stock system, and the sound files that I posted both on the BeastPower website and within this forum, are clearly not that of the stock exhaust.
Let me know if I can help by providing any information and/or assistance with regard to the Tubi.

Hi Robert,
The Kelleners sounds great (a little too loud IMO for the times when you want a peaceful cabin environment), but I sincerely did see a "big" improvement in both throttle response and power right after removing the X-pipe and Eisenmann Race exhaust and installing the Tubi cat-back system. Just something to think about.
I will have both "stock with Tubi" and "S2 with Tubi" before and after dyno numbers within 10 to 14 days.
1) "too quiet" - I thought the same thing at first!Remember, I also had an X-pipe with stock exhaust, albeit a very quiet, new stock exhaust. Now, 4 days later, I think the Tubis are absolutely perfect for this car. Maybe my ear is becoming more "tuned into" hearing the Tubis, or maybe it really IS getting louder. Or maybe a combination. I will say it still stinks a little less everyday, so there MUST have been a lot of crap in there to burn out. But I am now VERY happy with the mellow, subtle sound of a super-high quality built and sounding exhaust on a luxury sedan. Is it "right" for a Vette or a Mustang? Probably not. But you will never become annoyed, fatigued or bored with the Tubi sound.
2) Installation. Those converting from a stock exhaust will have no trouble at all. The problem is with the Supersprint X-Pipe. It is a couple inches longer than the Tubis, as measured from the front of the x-pipe (or resonator section) to the hanger. Your installer cut your stock pipes shorter when installing the X-pipe than he would have if he were installing the Tubis. Here's what I had to do: Measure the system from the hanger forward, and actually cut the X-pipe that was already attached to the stock pipes. I have about 2" of X-pipe in my car.
It seems in vogue to have hybrid systems lately, so let me be the first to say that I have a Supersprint X-pipe/Tubi system! Just kidding, of course.
I LOVE MY TUBIS! This is the most enjoyable, rewarding mod I've done so far. It is in perfect harmony with the character, design, and intent of the M5.

I am sorry that you had a bear of a time on the install. As you know, I started with the stock and did move up to the full Cat- back Tubis....I too thought it was ... too enviromentally correct...but the sound will change in the next few day...at least it did for me. My wife noticed the exhaust right away when she was following me home. I too experiance the joy of my exhaust when Chuckc and I went for a little ride....the sounds is perfect from behind. This is exactly what I was looking for, and I hope that your tune for the tubi's will change too in the next few weeks.

Great feedback Bill. I have read a lot of posts about exhaust installs and your comments are very encouraging. Until now I have been able to resist the mod bug (you can't really count installing the homelink as a mod can you? ) but I feel the need, the need for.......as I reach for my credit card.
ELEVENS,
I am glad that you like the Tubi exhaust system. There is a reason BeastPower chose to sell this exhaust, and none other. My M5 had the stock, Dinan, Hamann, Eisenmann and now the Tubi, and although the loud tone of the Eisenmann with X-pipe was great, it made me not want to drive the M5 as much. I also had not expected to see an improvement in throttle response and power from the Tubi, but I was amazed at the difference. It would be great to learn whether the Eisenmann/Kelleners with X-pipe configuration is too free-flowing for optimal operation.

Exhaust installs vary with the exhuast system and year of the M5. '03 M5s have an updated exhuast clamping system that is easier to work with then prior years (99-02 all have crappy bolts that are near impossible to loosen/tighten for adjustment). The aspect concerning the SuperSprint X-pipe could be the culprit in this scenario though.

It is nice to see a member who actually tells the reality of what happened during an install. Makes mechanics everywhere feel good. A lot of people seem to think parts just fly right into cars no problem. I hope this does not dismay you from more mods as some mods do actually go smoothly !!
