answers & info......................

Sean,
The original existing hole in the sheet metal section of the rear deck is approx. 5 inches in size, which has to be enlarged to allow sufficient air to move through, when the woofers are pumping.

Mako5,
I intentionally didn't get the ///M Audio system, since the M Audio is also (in my opinion) junk! I decided on saving the money for the cost of the M system and applying this money toward a REAL audio system. It was a wise choice!
Robert

I've got the M Audio in my car. Anyone know if Robert's mods will work in that application as well? Will the JL Audio subs fit the stock M audio sub surrounds?

"Is it the sounds that make a BMW a BMW? A BMW is designed to be heard, felt, experienced. So our engines sing. Our steering talks back. And we insist on offering manual transmissions in nearly all our models for drivers who crave them. The result is an almost telepathic oneness with the car. Just as surely as you can hear a BMW, a BMW hears you."

Fast 5,
I was on the MB Quart website and it said to use the PSD-213. The PCE-213 didnt have a picture. Are the PCE-213 a new version? Also why did you chose those over other models. I just would like to hear your opinion. It seams to me you did a great amount of reserch and would like to get the best system that I can. We have the BEST car why not have the Best stereo

My plan is to do as much of the installation myself. And since the door speakers are just a "plug in" I can save some money doing that myself and use the savings in the amp and Subs

With the Alpine amp powering the subs can you still control the volume of the subs with the stock head unit . Or are they pre set?

Does the Balance and fader still work with the door speakers?

Thanks,
Frank

Robert:

What is the size of the other 2 speakers in the rear deck? Not the two 10" sub-woofers ... But the 2 other smaller speakers ...
I guess they maybe surrounds of some sort.

If you replaced those as well ... which model speaker did you use?

BTW ... Any word yet on the Dinan Diffs ??

I have added a sub to the dsp system. I havent upgraded the interior speakers yet though. I am running a JLAudio 13W7 and 1000/1. Yes i know it is heavy but it is worth it to me. Plus it is wedged in there so I can pull it out when needed.

some answers.........

Hi Guys,
Double "D", The rear deck speakers are five and a quarter inch size. This is the exact same speaker that would go into the front driver/passenger door speakers.

Need4Spd, Don't know if the JL Audio subs will be a correct fit, in place of the ///M Audio subs. The JL Audio subs are no longer made. You'll have to hunt them down, if you want these subs.

Fskof, The PCE-213 are the most current model line speakers.
All of the controls in the head unit work, controlling the sub sound/volume and the fader controls all the speakers.

Robert

Fast 5 you have convinced me in to doing this upgrade. I have one more guestion. How was the signal to the amp for the subs wired. Did the speaker wires that would have run to the stock subs rerouted to the new amp therefor to maintain the control of the amp volume with the the head unit. Since I do use the car for clients I need to be able to turn down the volume of the subs when I have back seat passengers.

Thanks for your time

Frank

Robert:

Did you replace the your Rear Deck speakers .... and if so ... with what? My my calculations ... you would need 2 complete sets of MBQuart + 2 add'l MBQuart 5.25" speakers for the Rear Deck ... Not counting the Subs. Is that what you did?

As far as the PCE-213's ... They may the most current BUT ... they are NOT the MBQuart's best speakers for our M5.

Did you ever compare them to or listen to the MBQuart QSD-213? The QSD's are the "Top of the Line" MBQuart's ... Q Series speakers. Just curious if you had the time to do a comparasion?

BUT ... Then again ... Speakers and Sound is A Very Subjective area and very specific to each listeners needs.

I am very happy to hear that YOU are Happy with yours. I am sure it makes a world of difference in comparasion to the BMW
Stock M-Audio.
