Ok, im going to be a stupid spender...

Buying Denso Iridium plugs for the m5...what else do i have to loose. I know that our cars have very little if anything to gain from upgrading the ignition system (either coils or plugs) but i did notice some difference with the Ignition solutions coils on the car....still have not had a second to take the car to get dyno'd...

Im trying to do a meet in Ft. lauder. next weekend and get some dyno runs done as well

I guess ill be stupid and spend the money and try them out...and post back what i find

One case in point that you should know about those iridium plugs is that you'd have to change them a bit more often. The stock plugs are to be changed every 100,000 miles and I'm not sure what the change intervals would be for those new plugs of yours.

I didn't get them for my M5 but I did get them for my Tundra pickup. I can offer my observations on the change. The idle was made noticably smoother and the engine seemed to rev a little bit smoother/quicker compared with before. But I did not notice any other changes.

jason thanks...

i put them in another car of mine before and i noticed the same thing...what im figuring is that the higher the power output of an engine the more you might have to gain from a higher performance plug...lets hope

Mark,

IK20 is the Denso Iridium part number...

NGK also makes some new Iridium plugs but they dont have an application for the S62 at all. I was thinking about figuring out what plug would work but figured ill jsut stick with Denso.

Jason,
I'm pretty sure the stock plugs are supposed to be changed every 60,000 miles in the M5. The 540 (and other e39 cars) go to 100k, but the spec for the M5 says 60k.

Hey, at $15 each, the stock platinums are pricey enough for me!

Rob- From what I have read on other message boards the Denso Iridium plugs are almost a must have if you are running nitrous in the car. For most other cars they don't make that big of difference.

Are they worth the price you paid for them?

Yeah, my fault for paying the dealer to replace plugs.

I guess I actually paid less, since I did get some kinda discount.

Nitrous no....but something else down the road yes..

I figure that because the car is fairly tuned, i might be able to get a little more than just a "normal" car engine
