Last month I was diagnosed with a benign brain tumor. Now you might ask: What the hell does that have to do with an M5?. I am 44 years old, therefore by definiton; "mid-life crisis". When I hit 40 years old, I bought my first "nice car": 1998 black Lexus GS400. A real nice car! I kept it for 18 months, then traded it for the corvette that I always wanted since a kid (probably my first mistake). An automatic trans sports car just doesn't do it. So 15 months ago (on a whim I might add), I bought a 2000 estoril blue M Roadster. I love this car. Now comes my story. Last month I noticed hearing loss and ringing in my right ear. Being the proactive type, I got a diagnosis 2 weeks later of my tumor. The next week I found out that my best friend has non-hodgkins lymphoma. So, here's my thought: You only live once. Last week I plopped down my g note deposit for the car to fill all my needs, THE BEAST. Next week I get radiation therapy at Johns Hopkins for the little growth in my head. And then, hopefully sometime in the next 12 months, I get my dream car and start really enjoying life. Now, how does that sound for a cure for all my ills?
I'm really sorry to hear about your health problem. I have an acquaintance who had one, too. We all thought the worst, but prayed for the best. He had to have an operation, but today, less than a year later, all traces of cancer are gone, and he seems as normal as he was before...which isn't all that normal but heh, you can't expect an IMPROVEMENT.
My sister died of a brain tumor, so this story strikes me right in the heart.
Add to that a close friend getting a pain in January that was diagnosed as pancreatic cancer. She died today, this morning in fact and we're all very sad about that.
So good luck to you, follow your doctors advice and enjoy the beast.
you only live once. i love your view on it. good luck, and we WILL see you once your procedure is complete. In hindsight i am sure this will make you live life even better, as your story reminds me.
M phatic, do what brings you the greatest joy.
6 years ago I was diagnosed with Non Hodgkins Lymphoma as well. It had attacked the lining of my stomach. 2 weeks before going into the hospital I bought my first "Show Truck". It was my reason for getting out of bed each day. I would go out and tinker even on those days when I could not hold anything in my stomach. It gave me focus I guess.
The main thing is to enjoy life while you have it. If there is something that gives you reason each day to go out and face a different challenge, you'll find the pain and discomfort matters less.

I love your attitude and your approach to your situation. Never put off for too long the things that make you happy in life. BTW, why wait for many months on the waiting list for your dream car? When I finally decided that the M5 was what I wanted, I had a car within 45 days. There are a lot of places where you can buy them without being on a dealers list. I ended up buying mine from a broker(brand new) for less than most local dealers were asking for them. Have fun when you get your car and kick that tumor in the ***!
