Just a suggestion:

Since everyone has a different "ear" for audio you may want to also check out Focal Speakers and Boston Accoustic Z series. Bost are highend and run around the same price as the MB Quart. I have never heard the Focals but I have heard nothing but postive things about them. The BAs sound excellent also, I hear them and the MB Quartz (I forget what model, but they were $1000 for the componets) and both sounded excellent. If i was going to buy a new speaker, it'd be a toss up. I'd suggest listening to a few different speakers just so you make sure you get what you love.

Also, is there a reason why you are going free air? Some audio shops can do wonders when conceling a box. Or they can just make it a very smooth, clean install. Another bmwM5.com member had 1 JL W7 installed with a McIntosh Amp, it looks beautiful and I am sure it sounded just as great.

Good Luck,

JL Audio recently discontinued the "industry standard" free air sub which was the IB4 series. The 10" was called the 10IB4. If you call around you probably can find one. I use (2) free air 8IB4's in my M3 with pretty good results. Good thump, not too boomy but also not as tight as I like it. IIRC Crutchfield listed a free air 10" in the last catalog I saw but for the life of me I can't remember the brand.

My bad, i was looking at the red one thinking it was yours, the one with ac's 20x9.5 and 20x10.5...and kw's, that was looking nice, I didn't even bother to look at who it matched too. Sorry.

Robert,

Man whats gotten into you lately? you are going nutty with the mods...although i must say that i have wanted to do the MB's for a while, i might go with a Infinity Perfect Setup as they are tuned exactly the same (both companies love the high range) but the Infinity's are roughly half the price but i have to listen to them to see if i like them.

As for the subs, i would suggest the new JL's as they generally have a little more "pound" to them as some other subs but if you are looking for sound quality a little more, the Infinity Kappa Perfect 10.1 would be a good choice as well.

I have a 12.1 in my car and love it and im only running like 300RMS to it and thats WAY low. I really should run higher but with the amp that i have built into the box im kinda stuck as the box is build around the amp/speaker.

The a/d/s A10s.2 are really nice Free-Air Subs. They also fit exactly into the factory openings of the rear deck ... The biggest problem that you will encounter is vibration in the rear deck IF you have the automatic rear roll-up screen. The mechanics of the roll-up in 8 of 10 cases will vibrate at higher volumes.
