Service when car is from far away dealer - The Unofficial BMW M5 Messageboard (m5board.com)

I am thinking of ordering my M5 from a dealer in NY. I live in OH and have deposit at my local dealer, but could get the car faster from the one in NY. My concerns are: will my local dealer still provide the same level of service knowing that I didn't get the car from him? Will I be able to take delivery at my local dealership or do I have to either have it shipped to me or go there to get it? I would wait if it was only going to be a month or so, but it looks more like end of May vs. August or later. The problem is I've got M5 on the brain in a major way.

The same level? Probably not.

However, if you find a good dealer you will be able to get excellent service. My experience is that selecting the dealer is the biggest factor in the service you get.

However, I'll tell you a quick story to let you know how it sometimes helps to go to the place where you bought it. I took my beast into the dealer for the 1200 mile service. While I was waiting I was chatting with my sales person. All of a sudden she said, "Oh my God, hold on!" and she ran out the door. When she came back she told me that she had to go tell the service guys NOT to have my car washed before it was returned to me. Normally they have this dopey kid with a broom (I kid you not) and a soap bucket "clean" the cars before they're returned. Obviously that would have been quite a problem.

So sometimes those little intangibles can add up.
