Post OT:330 DSC vs M5 DSC

I noticed while driving my moms 330i that even when I turned off the DSC, it stil intervened when I tried to bring the tail out a bit. I wasnt trying anythihng stupid or crazy, just giving it a bit of gas around an empty bend in the wet. I first tried a really gently nudge, thought I felt the DSC kick in even though I turned it off. Then I made 100% sure that I switched it off, and the came back to the same corner and mashed the gas and swung the car around the corner and......NOTHING!! the comp kicked in and did not let it come out at all, with the DSC off!!! What gives? Does the M5 do this too? Or is this a glitch in her car? Please don't get the wrong idea, why should we tell this guy anything, he's just a psycho driver trying to ruin a car. No really I'm not, I was just wondering and wanted to have a tiny bit of fun. Any ideas as to why the car does this?

There is a subroutine built into the firmware called "Big Brother" (if you have the source code, it's clearly marked "BB" in the comment section) that senses when someone other than the owner drives the car and, especially when that driver is of a lower chronological age and a blood relative of the owner, intervenes even when the DSC is nominally in the "off" position.

i believe after the dsc is turned off there is still an ASR type system working on the rear wheels. To turn it off i think you have to hold the DSC button for an extra second. One of the major car magazines just did a write up on the 330 and found that doing as above would shut the system off completely.

Need4Spd - I wish... I just use my own personal version (involves sleeping with my key)

TurboPhoon55 - very interesting! I know that half of the guys won't have waited to read the rest of the posts today and are out there right now

ciao

Zoli, I half hope that the 330 has a glitch so that your car can not turn off DSC. I can just see you now. "yeah mom don't ask how I know, but the DSC is stuck on. I think we should fix it". Haha Its like when you get pulled over, and the cop points out that your insurance has expired and you have to find a cleaver way of telling your dad to renew it without telling him that you got pulled over. LOL

I'm sure all you M5ers and 330ers just ran out to your cars and tried to do doughnuts in the parking lot to make sure your car doesn't do it.
The boss says, "what the hell is Doug doing down there in the parking lot?!"

Thanks for the advise. And rest assured, I'm a good boy. I dont just steal the car, she lets me drive it every now and then. And I don't do crazy stuff with it.
