I feel like im too hard on the car (plus, Sport mode problems)

I just feel like I'm too hard on the car at times, I feel I'm not treating it the way it should be treated. I don't redline it really, except for first gear and on occasion second gear (i'm just used to the VW that takes forever to redline)...But the "head M technician" at the dealership told me it feels like I take very good care of the car and it feels the way it should feel. He said he knows when people abuse their cars, and I'm not one of those people....

Anyways,

Curbed my rim the other day, but had it fixed today and it looks very close to new. But the alignment is off. Ashok Arora mentioned that bad curbing can result to alignment, so I think thats the cause, but it was the rear wheel...?



Now, for the past couple days, it feels like the sport button doesnt really give me anything excpet a little more oomph. Do you know how the steering gets heavier? I'm not really feeling it as much anymore. Do you think I'm getting used to it, or maybe its seriously not there anymore. Has anyone heard of Sport mode not performing the way it should?

ps....while we're here, what should I use to clean/condition my leather.

If your mechanic is telling you that you are not that hard on the car I am sure you are fine. The mechanic knows all when it comes to pounding on a car. My sterring gets noticably heavier with the sport button engadged, especially at lower speeds. As far as the leather there are many godo products out there. Lexol, Zymol, and Meguiars all make good conditioners and cleaners.

Why do you think curbing a rear wheel can't hurt the alignment? It's an independent rear suspension, so the rear alignment can be adjusted for both toe and camber.

TC thanks for that reply. I guess I shouldn't be worried that much.

As for the the leather cleaners/conditioners, I knew that if anyone knew what was good, you would. Thanks


pmiranda, I wasn't doubting Ashok at all. You guys are a lot more knowledgable with cars than I am but hey, I'm trying.... I'm here to learn.. I just always thought alignment had to do with the front , and nothing to do with the rear.

In old "solid" rear axle cars, there really wasn't much to do in a rear alignment (which didn't stop shady shops from offering 4-wheel alignments that cost more and got you nothing).

Our beasts, however, do have fully independent rear suspension
