curb rash, where to get fixed

my used m5 has a good amount of road rash on the rims and since they are so expensive to replace i figured having them repaired would be a good idea.

would a bmw dealer offer this type of repair service? if not where else should i look?

how much would a typical repair run?

thanks

btw, does it really work? anybody know how?

At the M5DE I met the BMW paint expert. He explained that the color coat on the M5 wheels are only ONE MICRON thick, and are real silver particles! Your color on your M5's body is 35-45 microns thick.

He stated that the only option (at present) is to buy new wheels. He added, it's possible that a new paint product will be coming out in the near future called "Liquid Silver", whick might be a viable repair option.

He also had some surprising things to report about the so-called "soft" water-based body paint...

Quadcammer, inquire at a place called Rimpro up in Tewksbury, Mass. All of the Boston guys I'm sure can vouch for them. I've never had them fix my curbed wheels but apparently there are two options...

1) They can fix just the single wheel that is curbed and you *may* notice a slight difference in coloring on that wheel compared to your originals.

2) Have them re-finish/fix all 4 of your wheels and you *should not* be able to tell any differences.

Apparently the OEM M5 wheels are a very particular color and even if you bought one replacement wheel straight from BMW it may be a slightly different shade than the other 3 on your M5 (i.e. the originals that came with your car). I believe Bluemax once posted a thread showing a slight variance in the wheel colorings? Use the search function. I think the wheels are painted in batches and each batch may vary slightly in color.

Hope this helps!

-Keith

PS. BostonRocket, TCM, tfung, do you guys agree about Rimpro? Any other suggestions?

Quadcammer-
I heard that Wheel Collision Center (http://www.wheelcollision.com/) in Bath PA is a pretty good choice. I do know that the M5's rims are not the easiest to repair, so I would shoot these guys an email to ask about their experiance with the certain rim. Also, check the net (or this site) to see if anyone has put an M5 rim through there. Good luck, and I hope this helped!
