Warning of fraudulent E-Bay post for M5 engine & tranny

Greg,

Surfed to the M5 boards, saw you were a moderator.

The eBay auction at:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=33615

appears to be a fraud. The motor actually belongs to Rennwerks in Mt. View. http://www.rennwerks.com/M5%20Motor.htm

For more info, see:

http://www.firstfives.org/wwwboard/messages/61712.html

Hope you can let your members know quickly. I've already tried to notify eBay, but molasses is faster.

cheers,

-jim

Here in San Mateo as well.
Note - I don't know Jim, but I have no reason to doubt him. Still - I should say I have no idea if his allegations are true. I thought better safe than sorry - caveat emptor and all that.....

Here's what would have raised my suspicion...

1. He can't spell "serious".

2. Free shipping...on an engine and transmission? Come on...

This same listing was run under a different seller a week ago, the auction 'disappeared' as things tend to do on eBay.

I'd sent the guy a note, the response wasn't exactly convincing.

I just looked at the ebay post. Those pictures are of the engine at Rennwerks. You can see those pics. on their website.

My engine-less M5 is at Rennwerks right now since I was going to buy that engine. I saw that engine first-hand the other week.

Unfortunately, I hit a financial wall during the two days that my car was on the flatbed to MV and have since told them that I need to pull my M out and forget about buying it.

Since I got their interest up in selling the engine they, or the owner of Rennwerks privately, might be trying to sell it on eBay again. I wonder about the New York location though. I'm going to email Rennwerks and alert them.

Btw, anyone looking for a well-cared for 540/6?
