How to clean polish stain on black plastic ?

I was a little sloppy with some white paint polish and got some on the plastic bumper trim inserts while I was polishing my M5. I have tried to remove it with Meguiars Trim Detailer but it is still there can anyone suggest anything else to try ?

Try scrubbing all of the trim with peanut oil and a toothbrush. The brush works into the crevices and indentations and the peanut oil seems to remove most of the wax. After applying, wipe down/buff off with a soft towel. Hope this helps.

Solution

Many of us have tried the peanut oil or peanut butter trick. It will cover up the problem and it makes the trim look shiny, for a while -- but it does not actually remove the wax residue.

See this thread in which Greg (detailer extraordinaire) describes 3M's "Adhesive, Tar and Wax Remover" (pn #03607).

Yeah, I too can vouch for the 3M stuff. Works great, and can be found at Walmarts just like Greg stated. Griot's also has it if you don't have a Walmarts anywhere close.

After reading Gregs thread the 3M stuff sounds perfect.

> Griot's also has it if you don't have a Walmarts anywhere close.

Unfortunately the nearest Walmarts or Griot's is 3000 miles away because I live in Scotland. After searching Google it seems that 3M UK do not sell that product so I am screwed.
You guys get all the good stuff.

Griot's won't send highly flammable liquids via air, wimps. However "3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner" sounds like the same thing, thanks for finding that.

Griot's sells a trim touch-up or redo product. It looks and applies like liquid shoe polish. The applicator is perfect size for our tim pieces and it last thru many washings. It's not a "armoral" type dressing. I just did the same thing while polishing my car. I used the 3M adhesive remover first and wasn't satisfied with the result. I used the trim redo stuff and it looks like new.

Yeah, but just try to get some delicious haggis at our local McDonalds! Lots of luck.

By the way, I saw a sign at the local Mickey D's, encouraging visitors to become employees. It read "At MacDonalds, people are our most important ingredient."
I pointed out this was perhaps not the best phrasing for an establishment that specialized in hamburgers, but of course the 19-year-old manager merely looked confused.
However, the sign was missing the next time I visited.

Best,
Bert
