Post Brake dust

I suspect brake dust is part of the performance thing, but has anyone found a pad type that has a little less dust? These pads produce more dust than any pads I have ever seen.

Most of us have learned to tolerate it. Just wash the wheels a little more often. The harder composition pads often squeak more and may not offer the stopping power of the OEM ones. BMW and even Mercedes are famous for the this and have been as long as I can remember

Jim, Thanks. I own other BMWs and have used a variety of pads from Ferodo (hard on rotors) to Repco (with lower brake dust). Do you know what brand is on the car?

P.S. Coral Springs City Manager, Mike Levinson is a long time friend.

Exclamation

I put Mintex Red Box pads on the front of mine. They are VERY low dust. Keep in mind that the fronts are the same as the 540.

Contact Mark at www.germanautoparts.com for the front pads.

Hope that helps

Mike is fairly well respected in the city and quite competent. I don't know him and have sayed out of city politics since I was P&Z chairman a number of years ago. Before mike came.

Pads? I don't know. I just live with the dust. BMW has had so many complaints that I'm sure they would have done something about it by now if they new a better answer. This is my ninth bimmer. Some say I'm addicted or lack imagination I just like they way they drive and with the exception of the proposed new 5 shown somewhere on this board I suppose that won't change brake dust or not.

Cheers.....

I think the stock pads are made by Textar. Yes, they do dust and I'd actually trade some (but not much) performance for less dust. But I'm not going to do that until I can get matching pads all around. Maybe it makes no difference, but I think having pads with different fade and performance characteristics on each end of the car can be dangerous. I mean, the car handles differently with different brand tires on the front and rear, doesn't it? So far, I can get Mintex fronts (same as 540i), but what size/model to use for the back?
