Anyone with Transmission Synchro problems?

I purchased the Rogue SSK and WSR and had it installed last fall. I heard some light friction noises between 1-2 and 2-3 with the clutch depressed so I removed the SSK and the folks at Rogue kindly checked the unit out and glued the ball in place as a possible fix. The noise went away with the reinstallation of the stock shifter.

I finally got around to reinstalling the Rogue SSK & WSR (along with tranny mounts and Royal Purple Synchromax) back in my car and suddenly I have more bad noises coming from the transmission. On the 2-3 up shift above 4k RPM I hear and feel friction through the shifter when I move out of 2nd into neutral, and more when I move it from neutral into 3rd. When I let the RPM's drop below 4k, I don't have the problem. My mechanic suspects it's the synchros and the more rigid Rogue products are translating the problem where the stock unit did not. Would anyone have any experience with this scenario? The car is a 2000 M5 and with 25k miles. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Bob

I just did mine last week, although I have a slightly different kit. Ben, at my request, shortened the shifter 1 inch, so there is no other reduction in the linkage. I did the tranny mounts and RP. The overal throws are dramatically reduced. I find the shifting stiffer, mostly at lower rpms. However, when shifting around 3500 and above, it is very smooth. Not sure if that info helps.
Regards,
Jerry

Shifter noise.

Bob,
I have the UUC SSK, trans mounts, and RP. I notice more noise and vibration coming from the transmission than with the stock setup. I really notice it if I "lean" on the shifter too much.
I originally thought that it might be the SSK, but it's just a shift lever, so it shouldn't be a problem.

I will be at the BMW corral on Friday if you'd like to have a listen to mine

See you at the Concorso!

Jeff - The SSK can indeed be a "problem". Vibration damping is an important aspect of shifter design, an IMHO the UUC and RE units don't do a great job of it. My RE SSK is quiet unless I put pressure on the shifter in 2nd gear. Other than that I have no noise issues.

FYI

Exclamation

For what its worth: the shifting fork (part inside the gearbox actually moving the gears back and forth when shifting) is made from aluminium and rubs directly at rotating steel parts. According to my favourite M techies in Germany it wears if you keep applying pressure to the shifter when the car is moving, so this should be avoided.
