Exclamation Bay Area owners...favor to ask

If anyone in the bay area either has a spare rear dunlop tire OR has a set of track tires I could borrow, could you please email me?

i *just* fucked up my left rear tire, (my fronts are kinda gone anyways) with a nail in the sidewall, and I was planning on replacing all 4 after my track day. At this point, I'd have to buy a set now, and i'd have virtually no time to break them in so as to prevent chunking. sort of defeats the purpose of spending 1400 on tires.

Any ideas?

245*40*18 in front, 275*35*18 in rear.

I think what I'll do is end up buying a fresh set of S02s, but I'll also buy some Hoosier slicks for the back and run my wanna-be slick dunlops in the front. After the track day I can switch all four in comfort.

Dan - if you're going to run the track on street tires, they'll be plenty broken in by then. (I'm assuming you're taling about the August Sears event? or is this sooner - in any case, a few hundred miles and your tires are broken in.)

I would not advise mixing hooisers and bald dunlops. Asking for trouble. Their grips are WAY different. Car would probably understeer worse than it does now. Now, an M5 with 4 Hoosiers - that's a puppy I'd like to track!

Dan, are you talking about a track day soon or in August. August is a long time off. Hoosiers will give you less warning if/when they let go, are you ready for that? I would say get 4 new street tires and just start driving them. If you get a set of track tires you need a set of track wheels. Its not reccomended to keep dismounting and remounting tires on the 18" wheels.

First off, do NOT mix track tires and street tires. Hoosiers in back and street tires in front would produce huge understeer, it would not remotely be fun. Track tires really do have much more grip, and they also have a more progressive breakaway.

Secondly, if the track event you're talking about is August, you've got a LOOOONNNNGGGG time to scrub in the street tires.

Track event next friday at thunderhill. No time to break in s02s w/o sigificant chunking on the track.

Dan,

Sorry, I don't have any. You may want to call StreetWize Motorsport. They seem to have plenty of "extra" stuff laying around that may suit your needs. Speak with Art or Sean, 510-623-8898 - Fremont (I finally remembered the number).

Next Friday?

Did you tell your friends??? Did you bring enough to share???

Ah well, I probably couldn't get away anyway, particularly not being out Monday for karting.

As for the S-02s, buy a set of rears and trade Greg rear wheels, his should be scrubbed in now...

Hah. I'm actually getting a full set of Yokohamas from a friend for $250. they've got about 4k miles on them.

Yeah, taking friday off, and then monday is difficult. On top of that, I was going ot take the whole week off, but that didn't work out.

Eric: thanks for the contact to streetwize
