No to AA going with GruppeM CAI

I called active autowerke on the 5th of aug for the CAI charged me 949 and 100 for over night shipping. They did not have the CAI and had to make one, and I had an appointment with the mechanic on Mon. So they needed 2 days to make and then overnight shipment for Fri arrival. Call back 2 hours later when I found out that my mechanic was not available, so changed to regular shipping $30 vs $100. That night found out that my mechanic can fit me in on Sat, so called back 6th of Aug at 10am to change my order back to over night shipping. Now they are charging me $100 for shipment and extra $30 for transaction fee!!! I know this was not a simple order and many changes was made, but charging me $30 for one additional scan of my credit card was too much for me. After some conversation they did decrease the order back to the original price, but I decided not to go with AA and now looking for Gruppe M CAI.

I know it's only $30, and they were kind enough to decrease it back to the original price and from the board they seem to have an awesome product. However, my stomach was feeling nauseated, so I decided to cancel. Maybe it was that luke-warm, runny egg mc muffin that I had.

Well, anyone have any experiance with the gruppeM CAI? Need input. Thanks.

Understandable..it's not the $30 that gets to you. It's the principle behind the extra fees on top of the already orbitant shipping costs. But on the other hand, playing devil's advocate, you did cause somewhat of a grief for them by going back and forth between getting it overnight, getting it shipped via regular carrier and then again back to overnight. If I was a vendor dealing with a customer that did that to me, it'd be a headache for me having to deal with that. It was nice of them to agree to drop the $30 fee and you still decided to drop the order altogether.

Personally, I think that it's a great MOD even though I don't have it myself (have the Dinan CAI instead). I have seen both the AA and the GruppeM CAI combined in Lupo's M5 and it's an awesome setup.

Jason,

You are completely right. As you can tell from my first post that I did admit to causing some headache, and I did prise them on thier product and dropping the price back to original; however, that dam principle thing is eating me away. I wish they just lied to me and said that the shipping will actually cost 130!! Then I would be mad at the delivery carrier, but would have my CAI in this weekend. Oh well. Principle.........man, were did I get this from........

One thing you may want to take into consideration...

You won't get the benefit of brake ducting with the Gruppe M intake and you will with the AA system. Just curious, who did you deal with at AA? If it wasn't Rey, and you do decide on AA, ask for him.

Also, both GruppeM and AA systems do not fix the problem with the stock placement of the intake air temp sensor. (see the thread on this by clicking HERE.)
This mod is relatively inexpensive and will improve warm and hot weather performance substantially.

Xray this is Gas (the other MD with a life style as a high priority)

No I did not ask for Ray. I had no problem with the sale person on the other side. It's that dam self principle bs that I need to deal with.

I got the temp relocation kit! I thought it might be nice to install both the AA and the temp kit at the same time when the front bumper is off, but now I'm putting everything on hold!

I see on your siggy that you have both the AA and GroupeM cai.

Do you have pictures of both and how dothey work together?

I wanted to do the sink drain thing, but the AA CAI has it's own inlets.

oops

didn't i hear on some past posts that the oil from the K&N's would contaminate the MAF sensors? and they would give erroneous data.

There have been a few people that have talked about this, but I don't know anyone from the group buy that has had a problem with oil fouling the MAF sensors. You are supposed to let the filters air dry before installation, especially after re-oiling.

Or, buy new ones if you are unsure of how much oil to put on them.. I have not tried doing it myself on the car yet (no CAI), but on my motorcycles, I always bought new filters.

Just my 5c
