Standard CD player question...

Sorry 'bout this but I did a search and didn't quite come up with what I need.

I've suddenly figured out that it would be easier for me to create mixes on CDs to play during trips than to plug in an MD converter and use my portable MD player. Not being a stereo guru I know there are CD recorders that WILL let you create your own audio CDs but they warn that not all CD players will play them. Has anyone tried mixing their own CDs and then played them successfully on the standard ('03) trunk mounted M5 CD player? I'm not talking MP3's here (I don't think) just standard recorded audio CDs.

Thanks for any pointers.

I have done this many times. I use the built in CD burner on my Powerbook and have never had a problem. I have also used CDs made by others so I don't think you will have any problems. I have only used CD-R so I don't know if CD-RW will work or not.

That's gr8...

fuldd.

Mind telling me what CD recorder you use? It's really too bad because I LOVE my MDs but the integrated CD 6-pack is SOOOO convenient.

Thanks.

=NLK=

BTW jbuccino thanks, I just picked up your post. I THINK you may be talking MP3s, from which I know nothing. I'd copy direct from my MDs to the CD but the digital stuff won't copy, nor can I upload it to my computer's disk. All my music comes off my own CDs and Cassette tapes.

agree with everyone else, it works great. I've done this with all kinds of burners and media (even the cheap free-after-rebate noname CDRs) -- never had a problem. The changer has always played them all.

I usually use Nero to burn the music CDs, but have played CDs made with Easy CD Creator as well.

NLK:

I use the Yamaha CRW-F1 ... I also both software programs ... Nero as well as Roxio's. They are both good ... although I personally like Roxio's a little better ... due to ease of use.

No. I am talking about standard audio CDs. The standard BMW 6 CD Changer will not play files if they are stored in .mp3 format on the CD.

OK....

but you burn them on your computer, right? So is the source material downloaded off the net or is it a CD, etc.? If the latter, how do you get it to your hard disk.

Again, I'm a newbie at this (obviously) so I may be asking the wrong question, but I thought I'd just get a component CD writer (e.g. Sony RCD-W500C), hook it to my audio system and do it that way.

Thanks.

Both. I download from the net and capture songs and entire albums from my collection. The storage format on my computer varies but the burning program (Roxio in my case) allows you to select the files you want and gives you the option of making a standard audio CD or a digital MP3 CD when you make a CD. I choose the standard audio CD. I am positive that all CD buring programs will give you this option.

I have never investigated a component burner but I am pretty sure that the internal conversion and storage would be digital as well.

OK...

I'll investigate how to upload my CD tracks, cassettes, etc. to my computer disk. Once I get them there I should be able to burn them, no problem.

If I can't, then it'll be a component CD burner.

Unless I can somehow replace my trunk mounted CD changer with a MD unit.

Thanks all for the kind advice and info.
