Will US Bluetooth retrofit kits work on Canadian cars?

So, now that US gets BT kits but Canada doesn't, I'm looking into buying one from a US dealership and shipping it up north.

I talked with a dealership that'd be willing to do that, and their representative voiced a concern that the kit might not work with my car...

Is anyone aware of any significant differences in wiring/software between US and Canadian spec E39 M5's? It seems unlikely, but still...

They promised to e-mail me installation instructions for the kit, maybe it will shed some light...

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Cheers.

Just talked with my local BMW tech, we checked to see if all the required wiring was there, it was. He also assured me that he will be able to do the necessary programming. Yay!

Soon my E39 will be the first one in Canada with Bluetooth! Or one of the first one's, anyhow

rost12,

Who did you talk to, and where? Also, what year is your M5? I have a 2001 that I would really to get Bluetooth on.

Thanks.

I talked to Robert (a technician) at AutoHaus. Basically, we checked that all the required wires were in place and that he had the necessary software to program my car.

My car is a 04/03 built, so I am well within the production range for the current BT kits... I have no idea whether they will work with your car...

Thanks. I suspect that I am out of luck. Hopefully someone with a deeper knowledge of what's missing in older cars might suggest a retrofit that would make the Bluetooth kit compatible. I suspect it is just wiring. I am going to take a closer look at the installation instructions and see if I can tell what is missing.

Finally, people from Toronto are talking now.
Does that mean a possible Toronto M5 meet again?
What would you guys say?
