After a week of owning the M5 ....

every drive elicits a smile on the face

I took it out in the twisties and now I know why you guys/gals love this car

I was #1 on the dealers list to get the RS6 but once the reviews started coming out with comparisons to the M5 and the E55AMG it was quite apparent the M5 was still the driving enthusiasts car, quite amazing considering the fact that a 4 year old car still sets the benchmark for driver involvement. After that the decision on getting the current M5 was easy, the looks of the next generation M5 made it even easier!

On the highway merging, passing etc.. is effortless

You do get noticed, and along with that you also see some folks who notice fly by you. To make a point? I just ignore and enjoy the car.

Any ideas on how to remove wax remnants from the the vinyl strips on the door and the bumpers?

Yeah, isn't this car just simply amazing? I love this thing every single time I get in it. Just holding the thick steering wheel and getting comfy in those seats. Oh boy. Turning the key, hearing the engine and exhaust at the same time. Revving it just a little to warm it up. Feeling the car shake a little because of the V8. I LOVE IT I'm smiling just thinking about driving it tomorrow!

Congrats on the car. Makes us feel like a

And I'm sure one of the guys can help with the outside vinyl cleaner. Im not too sure of one.

Jajo & Jarlaup,

You guys paint a delicious picture. But do I wait on the E60 and 500HP? or dive in now, that is the question.

Congrats on the new car - isn't it great?

I would advise anyone thinking about an M5 to go ahead and get an E39 whilst they're still new/nearly new. You can always trade it in for an E60 later. If you don't "dive in" now you're missing out on all the fun. Don't forget, the E60 is 18 months away

Jarlaup,

The amazing thing is not the smile the car puts on your face when you get it, the amazing thing is that smile doesn´t go away a year and a half later.

Hey Jarlaup,

Congrats on the new Beast.

Are you talking about shipping Wax on the strips? If so, a clay bar is your best bet.

If your talking about Carnauba Wax then you'll need something else. I can't think of the name. But their are a few products that work. One is called something Black.

Ah hell, if the beast is broken in, than just drive faster and it will peel of due to wind shear.

Picked up my '03 LeMans Blue M5 on Saturday - 29 miles on the odometer. Needless to say, the car has blown me away! Prior to my M5, I owned a '97 Z3 2.8 (weekend car). Are these autos manufactured by the same company? Don't get me wrong, I really liked the Z3 but it was certainly no performance auto.

To remove wax residue from the vinyl strips you'll need to use 3M wax and adhesive remover which can be found at any wal-mart. Continue applying until the wax is gone then follow up with any rubber/vinyl restorer.

I would advise getting an E39 now - I have thoroughly enjoyed the 12,000 miles I've racked up on mine. The car is just so much fun - here's a simple test: While on the highway, downshift into 3rd gear at 55 mph or so, be sure "sport" button is engaged, stomp on the gas and pull third and fourth to redline - makes me smile every time.

PS, I do have an order in for a 2005, but if I were beastless now, I wouldn't wait.
