DINAN seminar with Steve Dinan, review of the meeting.........

Hey Guys,
Okay, so I went to the Dinan meet/seminar, which was held within my area, at an independent BMW auto shop (MOTOR WORKS WEST, WYCKOFF, NJ) Steve Dinan was there to talk about the M5 and the E46 M3 car. This was the first time I met SD and had a chance to speak with him in person. I spent approx. 25 minutes with him "one on one" out of a crowd of 200+ people. It’s just my opinion, but I felt as though he took a liking to me and enjoyed chatting with me, more so than others that spoke with SD.
I wore my BMWM5.COM tee shirt to the event. During our conversation, I mentioned to Steve that numerous guys from this board were serious about doing a group buy, and so I asked him if he could arrange/accommodate our group buy request.
At first SD "played it off" like he had no idea of this site and had never heard of, WWW.BMWM5.COM. Why I don't know.
I thought this was a bit odd, since I was sure he knew of the site, especially since PAUL S. personally had his M5 checked by DINAN, regarding Paul's S2 package on his car.
I told SD that the members of this board desired his 3.45 rear diff., so I asked him if he would set something up for us. He told me that DINAN has never done a group buy for anyone or any organization, but he would look into it and consider the request. He told me to obtain ALL the names of the interested parties from this board and also to find out where there nearest DINAN dealer is located, where they would actually have the rear diff. installed. He then told me to get him this info., by calling him. We will need to have at least 12 guys to make the group buy happen.
In my opinion, it sounded as if SD would put this together for us.
**ATTN: MARK (MIB) I spoke to SD about your car and your located "Australia". I asked him if DINAN has any future plans of opening up a DINAN facility in Australia. He knows about your car Mark, and of your recent order placed with DINAN. SD told me his company will not open up shop in your country, primarily because your country uses RHD cars. He said this makes it almost impossible for DINAN to use their existing engine modification parts, since the RHD cars are designed totally different than the US market cars. He went on to say that this is why DINAN has not opened up shop in England. He said it wouldn’t be feasible to start up businesses in the mentioned locations/countries.
Sorry Mark.
Once the meeting commenced, SD spoke about his company, his product and other competitors. He is a super smooth speaker and he knows his craft and the market, when it comes to his competition. During the seminar, he knocked down (without mentioning their names) the "other" software/chip company located in California and he made fun of another company's claim of gaining 25+ horse power from adding their "RAM AIR" kit onto the M5 car. In MY OPINION, these two companies are the POWERCHIP (CA) Company and the company known as ACTIVE AUTO WORKS (FLA). Again , I want to make to perfectly clear that SD did not mention the two company names but if you know what’s out there in the market for the M5 and you heard what I heard during SD speech, you'd know 100% that it was the two mentioned companies. SD, didn't simply knock down the "other" competitors, but he factually explained why these other companies can not deliver on whatever it is they claim.
I recorded the seminar in a micro tape/cassette. I was less than pleased with the outcome of the recording. My intention was to record the seminar and then transcribe the tape onto this board, so you guys can read his seminar, as if you were there.
At the moment, I don't have access to a dictation machine, which is necessary to adjust the pitch/speed of the micro tape. It would be way too tedious to do it any other way. If anyone has a transcription machine and is willing to have the tape typed out to written format, I'd send/mail you the tape. E-mail me and let me know if you can do this. If you guys read what’s on this tape you'll seriously think twice about the other competitors out there and you'll say to yourself, "DINAN is the ONLY way to go", and that includes their software!
Robert

Robert, thanks for the feedback. I too would like to hear the rationale for SD saying that AA and PC and not up to his standard.

Despite that, it must have been very entertaining and worthwhile to have been there.

From other posts, I understand that the diff alone will not garner the results that it SHOULD, but when coupled with the lightweight clutch package then it is a worthy mod to make.

Perhaps other members would want to do a GB like that..

Hopefully, someone will step up to the plate and ............

Either tanscribe the micro tape or have it done maybe by their secretary????? The approx. length of the tape is about 90 minutes. If I had something better than a regular micro tape recorder/player, I'd type out the information/speech myself, but its to long without a professional dictation machine.
Anyone????
Robert

TEE... No can do.

Sorry, but I don't know anything about MP3 player or its workings.
Im not computer savy like you high tech GURUS. hehehe.....
its its easy and I can do it without buying a MP3 player, please let me know, otherwise trabscribing the micro tape is the most sensible solution.

Hey Robert,

Good Job Buddy.

I too have had Dinan Techs explain at length their CAI setup, and Believe what they say about it.

Because when you look real hard at the AA CAI, its just a pipe conected to the Stock box, thats it. The Dinan increases the Diameter all the way through so no bottle becks. It moves the sensor , has larger better MAFS and has now added the Ram upgrade. It is far superior than just adding a twisty pipe.

However, Powerchips Software Kicks Dinans But. This has been proven. It is continually being proven on a daily basis, and the real cruncher will be posted eventually.

I have been really checking out their products, and the only thing that doesn't come upto scratch IMHO is their Software.

The other stuff Kicks butt. Their software is restrictive, Dated and not optimal, and I told Steve Dinan this. Hey actually hasn't replied to that yet.

But he does seem like a good guy. He took the time to answer one of my emails personally, which I thouht was pretty cool.

Robert:

Really nice job!!

I too have had a couple of "ear fulls" from Chris over at Dinan in Northern California. He pretty much knocked the crap outta PC and claimed that Dinan SW will "Eat-Alive" whatever PC has to offer.

I felt that he went way overboard and that makes me very skeptical when one company knocks the others too much. It Makes me want to research the companies that are being knocked even further and puts the company doing the knocking more on the defensive.

There is a company named "Fantastic Transcript" and I think they maybe be able to help us out with copying and typing from the tape.

Try this and see if this helps: http://www.fantastictranscripts.com

ATTN: "THEBEEN" read your reply..........

Send me an E-mail with your mailing address and I'll send off the micro tape to you, so you can convert it into a MP3 format. You can then allow the guys on this board to hear what steve Dinan had to say about the M5, his products and others who claim/think they can offer something better than Dinan, who are actually
full of hot air. Get me your address. Thanks.
