Which engine oil do you use?

Please post the viscosity grade you use if you don't use 5W30. Thanks!

I don't have the oil right here so I am not sure exactly which one it is on the list.

But I do know that it's the BMW (Castrol) TWS 10W60 oil.

Same here, it's the BMW (Castrol) TWS 10W60 oil.

In fact, probably the only one here in Germany if you want to keep your warranty

Since my car has had this since day one, there has been no change. Personally, I don't think that today's multi-grade oils are going to show a difference in an engine that already has the power of the M5 engine. I think the only performance difference will be the miles between oil fill ups and maybe a mpg or two. However, that assumes one drives constantly the same with both type of oils in their crank.

You need to edit your poll. I'll bet that many of us use Castrol TWS 10w-60 regardless of whether we "need" to, and if we're wedded to this viscosity, we're stuck with that single vendor. Those who use 5w-30 have lots more options. If I were using that grade (which according to BMW I "can" but don't), I'd probably use the BMW stuff when the dealer puts it in, but Mobil 1, Redline or Royal Purple if I did it myself.

"Is it the sounds that make a BMW a BMW? A BMW is designed to be heard, felt, experienced. So our engines sing. Our steering talks back. And we insist on offering manual transmissions in nearly all our models for drivers who crave them. The result is an almost telepathic oneness with the car. Just as surely as you can hear a BMW, a BMW hears you."
