Escort Passport 8500 versus Valentine V1

Just looking for some feedback re: the new Passport 8500 and the existing Valentine V1. My dealer recommmends installing the K40 or the V1 mounted in the rearview mirror(??). My internet research suggests the Passport might be the best of the bunch and it's portable. The Passport seems to be getting the nod for Ka band detection. I can't figure out which route to go. Help.

Thanks,
Derek

I had the V1 in my car and now have the Passport. My personal experiences has now shown that the Passport is better. Even I was to get another V1, I would not have it permanently mounted. While it looks cool, it limits your ability to use it in other cars. Also, if it breaks or you want to have it upgraded, it makes it difficult if not impossible.

I have both and I am in complete agreement with Parker.

Over a week of use, I find the 8500 to get faked out less and I find it easier to know the radar mode (X,K,Ka) since on the V1 theres just this little light and at night its hard to tell. The auto mute is a huge bonus- I always had the volume off on the V1.

The mirror V1 certainly looks great. I still think the Passport performs better though.

The V1 is, in my opinion, better because it tells the direction of the radar and can capture multiple boogies at once. THE Passports display is easier to read at night but somewhat harder during periods of harsh light.

$3000 for the rear view mirror V1? You are joking, right? I like it, but not $3K worth.
