AC Schnitzer DFC suspension ~ $6000-6500 w/ install
Exhaust of your choice ~ $1600-2000
Short Shift kit ~ $200(Autosolutions, UUC, etc.)-$1000(ACS)
Powerchips ~ $900
AA CAI- $995
Your car is pretty much done after that...
But for some reason, why am I into my mods for far more than $10K? Just works out that way sometimes...

Reserve $3495 of it and go take the 4-day Derek Daly Racing Class or similar. I'm assuming the measure of performance would be your own ability to go around the track faster. And I can promise you, no performance mod will match the value (and fun) you get from the course. A group of us did it a while back, and I published a review....
and if you're going to track the car, I think I would spend the rest on brake upgrades, and if enough left over, camber plates and larger wheels/tires (same as rear) for the front.

$6500 for a suspension, geez, what's it made out of gold? You can probably get a better set-up for far less than that.
The real answer to the question is a question. How are you planning on using the car? If the car is not going to be tracked, and is going to be a high performance street machine, there is no reason to go with the ACS suspension.
Better combo, even if you do go out for a few laps this set up will not let you down.

Obviously you haven't a clue about the ACS DFC suspension.
You go find an everyday usable suspension that can provide for 3 different damping settings on the fly by a switch on the dash as part of a full coilover system, AND can make the Beast corner better than an M3, and I will go buy it.
For $6500, you get an M5 with 3 distinctly different personalities.
I don't care if you put on H&R's, Bilstein PSS-9, Dinan Stage 3, Kelleners, I will smoke you with my DFC.
Sure, you can perhaps get a full JRZ race suspension, but you can't make it soft like stock by just flipping a switch, can you?

Tell you what, since you are in California, at all costs, come out to our Mt. Palomar run that takes us from OC to SD the weekend after next.
You will have the opportunity to see my DFC suspension. I plan to kick some Dinan Stage 3 *** that day. Then you can form your own conclusions as to whether my mods are a waste of money, like some experts on this board seem to think.

Well for $6500 it better perform the way you describe it. But for someone who doesn't track his beast regularly you have to agree it is kind of an overkill, no?
You may have a point, but in my case, I live on top of the mountains of Malibu with lots and lots of windy canyon roads. I get to drive at least 10 miles of off camber turns, S-curves, stuff that resembles chicanes, etc. every day. So even though my track car will be the GT3, I wanted to make the M5 a 4-door canyon slammer. I hope my objective will be accomplished.
