LED Lights

All,

Now I realize that the subject has come up from time to time. I was picking up my car from service at the dealership(Crevier) the other day and I had a little time to kill. Crevier is a really large dealer, space and car wise. There were three M3's, two convertables outside on the lot. They all listed for right at $60,000 for those interested. Anyway, one of the cars(Imola Red convertable) had different rear lenses. I looked further and all the incandesent bulbs were now LED's. They were not merely replacements, it was an intirely new housing with the LEDs. Very good looking.

I wish one of the aftermarket suppliers(Bekker, HIDS4LESS) would supply the same for our cars. Yes, I know we have the LED bars, but not turn signals or brake lights. You would really need to design the housings from the ground up to properly utilize the LEDs.

Great look.

Mark

Yes Mark, are you sure you weren' t just a little bit confused by all those flashing lights--first your SES, then all these M3 LED's.

Are we sure we're not talking about the '03 3-series with the face lift? The slightly different kidney grill, the active headlights and the new LED taillight setup in the back?

Very cute guys and Anita

All (well almost all - you know who you are),

Yes, perhaps the M3 has had a little face lifting. This would be appropriate in the plastic surgery capital of the US. In fact, I did not notice if there were additional changes. I am not as familiar with the detailed cosmetic upgrades on a brand new M3. All I really noticed was the lights.

As far as XrayMD and Anita go - No, it was a M3, yes there were a lot of them and I was a little SES light blinded, but to this degree. Anita - are you sure you know what LED stands for? You do understand that these are lights and not I am not talking about some new shampoo. I know, don't everyone here harpoon me for spearing Anita with the comments. Its all in good fun and she knows it.

Mark,

All 03 M3's built after March, now come with the rear LED lens. I've not seen one in person, but I was told they look great.

Cheers

Mark,
Light Emitting Diode or something like that, but in your case I thought your were talking about the Little Extrablinky Dojiggy. Ha Ha- Shampoo, now if you would have said it was a new type of car wax (or beer) I might have been fooled and begun searching the shelves for it.

I've had my '03 M3 for a little over a month now and it has the LED rear tail lights. I like the way they look, but I don't see them very much, since I am always sitting in the car.

They do come on almost instantly when you hit the peddle, which is nice. And, there is a ring of lights (in the brake light) that comes on under extremely heavy braking.

I think it will be quite some time before there is an E39 retro kit.

From what I have been reading, some people are trying to get an E46 retro kit, and I don't think it is going too well. It seems that the tail lights are not "plug & play" so there I think there is some extensive rework needed.
