My friend just called me up and say's there is a click noise when comming off the clutch. I recommended him to have it checked out but he want's an answer sooner then his appointment. I was wondering if any of you guys have had that problem before or any ideas what it might be? Thanks much

I am not too familiar with the e39 M5, but I imagine the car has cruise control, and if so, there is a contact switch for the cruise control to switch off when the clutch is depressed, posibly the switch is noisey or faulty.
While I am not too familiar with the mechanical details of the M5 clutch I have had clutch mechanisms make clicking noises due to the need of lubrication of joints and springs. Is the clicking noise coming from the footwell? If so it may be as simple as oiling a clutch pedal arm, spring or bracket. (I'm going to have to get down in the footwell and take a look at the clutch pedal itself - and sorry abou the non-correct tech terms)

I'm not 100% sure about the '00 M5, but the switch you refer to in my '02 M5 is a magnetic switch and is noiseless.
