Saturday, parked my M5, go to turn engine off ... Humm, wont go past the ACC position, try harder, start car again, turn off, same thing ?
No mater what I try can't turn key past ACC so can't take the key out of the car ... Oh well have to go in for service first thing Monday.
Humm, hope there's not much power drain with key in ACC position ?
Run upstairs to get the second key, can't lock the doors from outside either with the remote or via the key lock ?
Well can't just leave it key in ignition not locked (after all this is the same garage that I've had 2 sets of wheels stolen), head over to Allision BMW in Mt. View CA as they might still be open ... Just the salesman and the parts guy's, not much help, "bring it back Monday morn".
Called a friend up in Mt. View who can block it in the driveway til Monday morn, so shuffle some cars and get a ride home.
Today (Sunday) had my friend check to see if the battery was still ok ... Not a chance, new I should've disconnected the battery.
As I'm talking to my friend on the phone he tries one last time to start it still nothing but as he turns the key to remove it it comes out ??? I swear it wouldn't turn past ACC ... My friend verifies that he also tried it several times ?
Oh well, he puts on the charger and I head over a few hours later and we hook the battery back up and all is well. The first couple of times I put the key in and turn it to start or to shut it off I can feel some resistance between ACC and OFF but after that I started it and shut it off several more times and everthing seems fine ?
I'm still going to drop by the dealer tomorrow and see if I can't convince'm that something was wrong and get'm to order a new ignition switch.
Any one herd of a M39, or any BMW, problem like this ?
Brutus.
