Track tires -- Pilot Sport Cup on the Front

has anyone used the 265/18 sport cups on the front?

my numbers say that a 9 1/2 wheel with 18mm offset will clear the inside strut tower by about 3mm -- should be okay

-- but this puts the outside (max section) only 3mm in from the OUTSIDE edge of the front fender (too close for comfort)-- static with Dinan III camber plates -- but as the suspension compresses the top of the tire MAY move in enough to clear the fender (and i don't want to test this by buying the wheels and tires to see if they run into the fender)

has anyone got any experience or further insight?

note that the Sport Cup 265 is really a 275 section whereas the Pilot Sport 275 is actually a 270 section (the Sport Cup maximum section occurs close to the rim and protects the wheel) -- this means that with the minimal 3mm inside clearance the Sport Cup has 5mm more to the outside than an OEM rear wheel/tire with 5mm spacer

what's the biggest track tire anyone has run on the front?

100mm spacer? Your wheels must really stick pretty far out!

Tyre combo for fun

Cup fronts in 225 width on std wheels at the front, and worn-out tyres (anything that fits) on front-sized wheels at the back, is a splendid combination for fun.

But the cups are very expensive.

I just ran a brand new set of Pilot Sport Cups all last weekend at a track near Vegas. Put them through about 10 heat cycles of about 20-30 minutes per cycle. They last very well, and look like they have another 10 cycles to go before they are shot. Grip is very good after they are warmed up....seemed like they might have started to fade a bit when the outside temp reached about 93 degrees. I was careful to run them at 32psi hot, and about 24-26 psi cold. Good tire for track work, and probably worth the extra $$$$$ because of the longevity.

PS, I was racing a Shelby Cobra with 570 hp, and 335/17 Hoosiers on the rear.....I took him in the corners every time.
