Picking up my Beast on Wednesday

The day has finally come and I'm about to be behind the wheel of one of the greatest feats of automobile engineering known to mankind; tell me I'm not stoked! If only I wasn't too busy to put it to good use.

My '03 LMB/BLK Sport int. arrived a week ago. Unfortunatly, I've been out of town and will finally pick it up this week. I have no apprehensions about my purchase I am just wondering if there might be a way of negotiating a better price for the M5. I've basically got it at msrp plus I got them to throw in a car cover, wheel protection insurance, and window tinting. In my business it seems I'm always negotiating a better price, sometimes peacefully , sometimes forcefully . Since this is my first buying experience with a BMW dealer I was hoping a few of you might have a little advice on the subject. If I'm coming off like a tight-wad I apologize, I was just thinking that the current state of the economy might influence the dealer to make a few more minor concessions, god knows their sevice dept. will be taking me to the cleaners for a few years to come. Thanks!

Congratulations and welcome to the board.

Unfortunately, if you did not negotiate down from MSRP right at the beginning it will be well nigh impossible to do so now that your car is sitting at the dealership. While in some markets it may be possible to negotiate on price this is by no means consistent across the board, even in this economy. There are plenty of us that pride ourselves on our aggressive negotiation skills who also ended up paying MSRP. You did very well with the gratis items. Some have only managed a cap or keychain I received a car cover and a battery tender, but there is still a pervasive attitude at many dealerships that they are doing us a FAVOR selling the car at MSRP.

I have been shopping at dealerships and most are at msrp. There are exceptions both ways 10K over and if you are lucky 1500 under. Forget about price though and enjoy!

Dear CSM:

Consider yourself lucky ... regardless of what the economics conditions might "Seem" to be for most.

For those who desire and attain the pleasure of driving the most aggressive sedan in the world ... Just might have to pay the price.

Last Friday ... I saw at Beverly Hills BMW a new Carbon Black w/Black with an asking price of MSRP + $15,000 Special Mark-up!! In addition there was a new Z8 with an asking price of MSRP + $50,000.

Like I said at the begining ... Consider yourself lucky and enjoy it!

Only in Hollywood people.... !! It seems that if you get paid $20mln for a movie, you could brag to your friends that you paid $50k over to get a Z8..

As the guys here have said CSM, hwatever you negotiated beforehand is what you will be paying.. and, once you have settled in behind the wheel, you will have forgotten the cash you just dropped in getting her.

Good luck and welcome to the most informed board on your car...

Congrats CSM and welcome. While I didn't sit on the dock waiting for my BMW to port like Mark, it was a year long wait after the allocations for 03 cars were negotiated, BMW got my deposit and the car was delivered. So I know the feeling of waitin all to well.

PS the only freebie was a copy of the Nav CD for Germany since the DVD version is on back order.
