Well the cables came this week, I downloaded the old info per the enclosed instructions, pretty simple. Prior to that I had 3 or 4 phone calls from Joel (salesman), Travis and Wayne himself just to let me know the cables were on the way, apologizing for the delay, and asking if there were any questions and telling me to feel free to call during any part of the process. I sent the info today hoping for the new program by Tuesday. About 3 hours later, I get a call from Wayne (this is Sunday). He is working, and he called to tell me I would get the program TODAY and confirmed my car upgrades and rev limit. I did the reinstall tonight, took it for a shakedown and everything is good. Wayne says it takes about 50 miles or so have the adaptive system get fully familiar with the new programming, but I did a couple of 2nd and 3rd gear pulls, and there is a noticable difference. I still get an extra kick when I hit the Sport button. I will report back during the week on my finely calibrated buttometer measurements.
Regards,
Jerry

I'm expecting the cables in the next day or so.
I don't understand why it would take 50 miles to see any difference. If your engine fuel/advance map is re-mapped, the new map should make a difference immediately. The only thing I can think of is that one of the things (maybe the prinicipal thing?) the PC program does is trick the engine management system into thinking you drive like a maniac all the time, so it has to "learn" your "new" driving habits so as to deliver full power, more responsiveness in response to what the PC tells the computer is your "hard driving" style.
If true, I always thought that an adaptive engine management system was never a good idea. While I don't drive it like a maniac all the time, when I do, I want full performance and don't want the computer to think that just because I "normally" drive more sedately that I'll never want/need the engine to have a more aggressive map, or that I have to convince it that I *really* need that map before it'll give it to me. Anyway, I'm sure hoping this is for real and that the reports I see on the board are not just a placebo effect, as this is the most expensive engine management software package I've ever purchased.

"Is it the sounds that make a BMW a BMW? A BMW is designed to be heard, felt, experienced. So our engines sing. Our steering talks back. And we insist on offering manual transmissions in nearly all our models for drivers who crave them. The result is an almost telepathic oneness with the car. Just as surely as you can hear a BMW, a BMW hears you."
I also added the PC program. I noticed a difference "straight away". Now I have about 200 miles so all the "adaptive conditioning", if you will, should be complete. The throttle response is quicker with an overall smoother and stronger acceleration pattern.
With the throttle response and the higher rev limit, it really is difficult to discern if what you feel is actually more HP/Trq, better response or both. In any event, it is hard to be quantitative without before and after comparisons on a dyno. There is a difference qualitatively however.
On my first freeway trip, I did not noticed a difference is MPG. Most likely due to so many variables as far as average speed, highest speed, level of throttle input, number of stops etc. It was hard to keep the right foot tame and I often drove in third on the freeway with spurts up to 100 or so. (had to make sure all the various loads and engine speeds were covered during the "adaptation process" )
Also put the PC on my 530i (3.0). The same observations I had on the M5 ring true for the 530i. The 3.0 really needed help.

glad to hear that you are happy with your upgrade. Which throttle map program did you get? What type of power program did you request as well (low torque, midrange, High HP or all over)? Also what rpm did you move the rev limit?
Im past the initial adjust period now for the most recent program and im really happy now. Sorry if i stepped on the toes with the cables! I havent noticed an increase in MPG only because i have been really pushing her around town.
Rob
I left theprogramming to Wayne. I told him I do plan to track the car. The rev limit was moved up from Dinan's Stage 1 software 7300 to 7500. I notice smoother response, especially when I go from low rpm to full throttle. The hesitation is gone. This a.m., almost all the cold hesitation I experience for the first minute or two is gone. I am able to run a higher gear and feel better response. The engine also seems to rev a little easier, although it might be a placebo effect. Don't sweat the cables, a few days did not make a big difference!!
Need4Spd, I am not sure why they recommend a 50 mile or so break-in period. I assume just like when the car is first fired up, there is a small learning curve so all the different places on the fuel/timing maps can be reached and learned. I am more interested in the results than the theory. And the price is typical of software in my experience. Years ago, I did my Audi quattro 200, that required sending the ECU out for a reprogrammed chip ($795). Also received excellent service, but the car was down 2 days. Also did a Porsche 944 turbo, similar price in the late 80's received 2 chips and drilled recyling valve (did that one myself as the chips were not soldered). The PC price seems fair to me, and Wayne tells up that we can have any upgrades for the upgrade price only, which makes sense since it is merely an updated computer programming change.
Now I have to focus on hiding the V1!!

I too would be interested to see how Kelleners fares since they are on this side of the Atlantic. Let me know when/if you do their upgrade.

Life may not be always be the party
I thought it would be, but while I am
here I'm going to DANCE
Done a couple of hundred miles and all is well. One false alarm: SES light goes on. Dealer sees the car a couple of days later (already scheduled for something else). Turns out to be a bad O2 sensor, replaced under warranty. No mention of any change in programming. Car still pulls better in all gears. I can shift earlier and the next gear is more eager even from 1500rpm. Still get a nice kick when I hit the sport button. Great service from Wayne and the group in CA. All in all, I think it is the best $$$$ I have spent on the car to date.
