Summer M5 Meet

All,

This is a bit for out, time wise, but you need to start early with a group as diverse as this. I would like to get your feedback on a special gathering of M5s sometime in the summertime here in California. I am sure there would be those who would drive as far away as Texas to get together with a group of 100+ M5's.

Perhaps we could have it near a track for some track time and I am sure some of the major car magazines would pick up the event and cover it. BMW and other suppliers might have an interest as well, if it turned into a large turnout.

My purpose for this post is to get your feedback and start suggesting possible dates. It would need to be a two day event to be worth while. I am sure it would be a three or four day event for those coming from further away. All the modifications and all the people from this board would have an opportunity to finally meet face to face.

I also realize that there would need to be an organized effort to pull this off. I have no direct experience with event planning of this magnitude, so I will need some help.

Let me know,

Mark

Mark,
Sounds excellent! Early August by the beach would be good. Santa Barbara possibly. Seeing a bunch of M5's in front of the Biltmore (Four Seasons) at sunset etc could be fantastic. I'd be happy to help coordinate the N. Cal'ers. But no prior experience in this area either. Although we will have a "dress rehearsal" in Feb. Maybe we could spend some time then putting down some more concrete plans. I'm sure that if we plan it this far in advance with monthly reminders, it would be possible for most to fit one weekend in the summer.

Barry,

Works for me. Thanks for jumping in. I have been to the Biltmore in Santa Barbra and it is quite a place on the beach. Perhaps we will start a list of prospective locations. We have one.

This outing would be for anyone willing to make the drive including the surrounding states.

Move the meet to the middle of the country and maybe some of us East Coasters would come!

Why not coordinate via the CCA and the Octoberfest thing in NH- its in early August. (I know NH isnt exactly central for many people)

Since the East gets Octoberfest, I say we keep it out here. Maybe check with Buttonwillow on available weekends. San Luis Obispo is another possibility but I am not as familiar.

Also, I would keep it impromptu, to minimize formalities such as insurance, etc. Can't help it, I am a lawyer. Maybe doing it through a BMWCCA chapter would resolve these issues.

Thanks for the suggestions. Keep them coming. I think this event will stay more to the West coast side. There really is a large concentration of owners here in California, although it would not be too bad of a drive from neighboring states.

I look forward to hearing from you all

I'm up in Oregon, and can think of many beautiful routes to take down there.

As I am a new owner (just took delivery yesterday), I know of only a couple of other M5s. I'll ask them and will let you know of their interest too.

You definitely have my vote to keep it on the West coast. Sorry East coasters, no offense. But you do have Oktoberfest and we're jealous about that!

I think Santa Barbara would be a spectacular idea! Summer time, the beach (with all of its splendor and beaut(ies), a large collection of M5's, what more can you ask for?
