Do you guys change oil after each track event? I drive it pretty hard out there. 3- 4 20 min sessions a lot of times at red line.. Oil temps reach 240 F..
First oil change was at 1200 mile service. Now it’s 4500 miles and 2 more track events coming up?
I know synthetics usually withstand higher temps, but 240? What about oil filter disintegration potential?
Wow, the things I learn from reading this site.
I have never thought of doing my own oil change on the M5. I do check the oil when I do drive it. And I see that the oil color is fairly dark. I just assumed and believed the company line that says I can wait until the car tells me to.
I supposed I need to start doing my own oil change to be safe. Is it fairly easy to do? I always do my own on other cars.
Thanks for the information.

I typed in "oil + change + instructions" using the Search feature, and here's what I found. This is an AWESOME DIY guide for changing your own oil on the E39 M5, complete with 17 digital pix.
Enjoy, and don't hesitate to try that search button in the upper-right corner when a curiosity strikes you. Chances are, your not the first to wonder....

I've done a dozen track weekends with my Beast, and I still follow a 7K mile oil & filter change regimen, using the Castrol RS 10w60 (for an 02/00 build).
My oil temps have not creeped into the 240 range, despite a good bit of time near redline. Typically, more like 200-210.
Either way, with the structure of synthetics, I do not believe more frequent changes are necessary.
And it's not just that I'm lazy, either! I change pads and flush brake fluid before each event.
