The X5 will be named X5 HP. The engine is from ALPINA and will be produced together with the car in Dingolfing. ALPINA will just supply BMW with the know how and the different parts. These are: Valves, cam shafts, pistons, piston ring, connecting rods, Motronic program.

The M5 engine died at a comparison test in Miramas (France). That was the reason that the BMW management decided to go with the ALPINA engine. Depending of the exhaust system in the X5 the engine will just have approx. the 347 HP which will be showed in the papers. Torque is approx. 470 NM.

The B10 V8 sedan has approx. 360 - 365 HP even when the papers show also 347. The torque is close to 500 NM.

The ALPINA engine is powerfull and very economical. I have a average speed over 56 mph in the bord computer. The consumption-II is 21 mpg.

Oil consumption is "0". No VANOS noise.

Black M5,

The engine will look exactly the same as the current 4.4L seen in the 5 and 7 series cars. The car will be called the X5 HP in Europe and I have heard that it was introduced as the X5 4.6 is in the UK, expect a different name for the us market, something close to 4.6 is, I would imagine.
