New M5 Owner .. ..

I just finished the paperwork for a brand new M5, and will be taking delivery in a couple of weeks. It's an understatement to say I'm excited

One thought that keeps going through my mind as I anticipate getting behind the wheel is "am I a good enough driver?". I have watched Greg's very informative Virtual Driving School, and was wondering if there is an actual driving school that anyone knows about in SoCal that covers the same type of techniques?

Thanks'

Peter

Congrats

What are the details, color, option etc?

If it is new (the paper work comment makes me believe it might be) you get to do the M5 Drivers Experience in SC.

Peter,

Welcome. I am not sure about a driving school, but the drives that occur from time to time certainly are educational. There is one in Northern California that I am driving up for on the 19th and I am sure there will be another one down here in the near future. As far as driving on the track, you will see posts to that effect from time to time here as well.

Mark

I was never able to attend so I can understand that. Try your local chapter of BMWCCA they are bound to have track days, car control clinics etc.. I have found those put on by our local club to be very educational.

Being from Wisconsin that is all I can offer! Oh yeah and a lot of jealousy on the weather - mine has been captive in the garage for 4 days because of snow and other nasty precip in April

If you're going to get your new M5 before April 19th then you should certainly consider joining the upcoming Norcal M5 drive taking place on that day. It'd be a good way for you to break in your M5 quickly but not too quickly.

Check out the Wine Country Drive thread for more information.

Congratulations

Welcome to the board, Peter.

You should definitely consider joining the local chapter of the BMWCCA, as most chapters organize driving schools and car control clinics which will help in refining your driving skills.

Seek out some deserted country roads(probably easier said than done in LA), or a large, deserted parking lot early in the morning on a weekend to practice the techniques covered by Greg in the videos as well as to establish a rapport with your beast
