CHP 11-99 Foundation saves my @ss

Tonight I was in the hilltop area of Richmond, Ca. and came to a stoplight. First in line with a black E46 M3 on my right side. Lo and behold, here comes a crotch rocket motorcycle up the middle of the lane between us. Eyes light up. The cycle is reving and my self control is diminishing rapidly. The light changes and the motorcycle and I display some acceleration. I lost traction (big surprize) my tires smoke. For once my car isn't wheel hopping, so I just run it to redline, shift to second and I'm right with the cycle. I haven't seen the M3 yet, so I look in the rear view and there's a Highway Patrol car behind me just turning on his lights. He lets the cycle go and follows me to a parking lot. He comes up to my window, I tell him,"That was pretty supid, wasn't it?" He says, "I expected to see an eighteen year old at the wheel." I'm 52 He asks for my license. While he's looking at that, I'm getting my little vinyl case out of the glove box that I keep my reg. and P.O.I. in, that I got for my $500 donation to Calif. Hwy Patrol 11-99 foundation. On the cover is an embossed gold badge with CHP spelled out and inside with my P.O.I. card and reg. is my credit card type ID that shows a badge, membership #, and shows him that I am a contributor to their foundation that helps support families of Patromen killed or injured in the line of duty. I try not to make it too obvious, but I do want him to notice it. He did, and asked if I was a retired CHP. I told him know, but I am a contributor to 11-99. He said, " I'm not going to cite you, but I want you to be careful. I know it's Spring, but be safe out there."
That was it!
I found out about the foundation from a member of this board's post over a year ago, who had joined and was given a warning for 100+ mph on a freeway on ramp. He nor I can say for certain the foundation membership is what got me off, but I think it did.
For those of you living or visiting Ca, who want to donate and maybe save themselves a big fine and insurance hassles for a moment of weakness. Info can be found at chp1199@aol.com or 562 947 1199.

Not only did it might save you a ticket but you also made a donation to the Hwy patrol. Now, that's the way to do it. Good job.

regards,

peter

Fredcourtot was saved by the membership several months ago too. However he said lifetime membership is $1800. Can you pay $500 and not renew and still get the badge and license plate cover?

i requested a brochure, which pretty much has all the same information as the site. according to the site, with the annual membership, you only get a plaque and membership card. the lifetime membership gets you the same items plus license plate frame and brass engraved membership identification card in leather wallet. from the post, it looks like capup got these items (at least the brass badge) with the $500 donation. heres their site:

It is $1800, but it's worth every tax deductible cent.

I have twice been 'warned' and not ticketed because of membership. Both times I had stupidly left my V1 in the other car!

It is a total deduction, and a well worth while charity too, so sign up and drive smart!
