I had the devil blinkers on the 540i. It seemed related to the security system and would occur right after the unlock. It happened 3 times on mine. The 3rd time, I noticed it soon enough, re-locked the car and unlocked it to solve. I assumed it was a stuck relay on the flashers but my dealership replaced a security sensor and the problem was exorcized from the car.

I had this problem on my X5. Flashers started as soon as the car was unlocked, and I couldn't get them to go off. On my drive to work, without being able to signal my direction changes, and all flashers flashing, they went off in about 5 minutes as mysteriously as they came on. BMW doesn't know crap about accessories and non-mechanical electronic controls.

When Lucas electronics was thrown out by Jaguar, did BMW hire them? My M5 has had several electronic quirks as well. I guess BMW has no idea that any problems exist, since the dealers always just write on the service ticket, "Problem cannot be duplicated." That answer is apparently satisfactory to all of those responsible for correcting the deficiencies.

Security Breach

The M5 does this with the blinkers when the panic mode has occurred. Something about holding the alarm button down for a certain amount of time. You have turn the engine off for it to reset.

MAH, don't think this is the cause, as usually the panic mode includes the alarm siren -- unless this is the new SILENT panic mode (that would really be effective).

Also, starting the car will usually disable all active alarms, or stop you from starting the car. Of course, you may be right if the siren and ignition disabler circuitry also is defective. BMWs are known for sequential unrelated and simultaneous electronic anomalies! -- say that 3 times fast!

The Devil came down to Melbourne, he was looking for Beast to Steel, he was in a Benz and had to make amenz, so this here is his Speal.

When he came accross a young man, playing with his Beast, and driving Hot, and the Devil jumped up on the Benz's trunk and said, Boy let me tell you what?

I bet you didn't know it, But i'm a driving Enthusiast too, and if you care to take a dare, I'll make a bet with you. Now you drive pretty nice and tidy Boy, but give the devil his due, I'll bet a Beast of Gold against your soul, cause i think my Benz is quicker than you.

The Boy said my names TRIFlow and it may be a Sin, but I'll take your bet, your gonna regret, cause My Beasts the best thats ever Bin.

Triflow wax your beast up, and drive your beast hard, cause the darksides broke loose with its forced induction and it snaps back really hard.

And if you win you get this shiny Beast made of Gold, but if you loose the Darkside gets your soul.

The devil said I'll start this show, and Fire blew from his exhaust as he revved up his darkside show.

When the devil finished Triflow said, well your pretty good old son, but sit back there in your big ol lounge chair, and let the Beast show you how its done.

The devil bowed his head because he knew that he'd been beat. And he parked that Golden beast on the road at Triflows feet.

Triflow said, Devil just come on back if you ever want to try again, I done told you once you son of a Benz the Beast is the best thats ever been.
