Will any of you be MELANCHOLY when............

the E39 (M5) 5 Series is put to rest/ended ???
When the production ofd this car stops, it seems like it will be a very sad day and a truly sad goodbye.
What do you guys think?

Heck no! Then we all get to call ourselves collectors, and we can be right proud to own the single most respected, revered and admired high performance sedan of its era - chased for several years by competitors, and never, ever caught.

I'll be sad. Sad that I am not able to achieve the financial status where I am comfortable enough to purchase a M5. A brand new M5.

Don't be sad Kevin, if it wasn't for you, I wouldn't be taking delivery of one of the Last brand new E39 M5's. I will always be greatful.

P.S. Whats the 34 stand for? Is that your age?

Just curious. I'm also 34.

Hey Robert, I think the only ones that will be really sad are the ones who missed out.

Lucky ones like us have got TWO.

No I suspect that somewhere, someone just 'lost' their M5 to an accident and they will be sad that they aren't able to get another new one. Happened to a friend of mine here in Germany years ago when BMW stopped making the 2 ltr 320 series and only offered the 1.8 ltr engine with less features. Worse yet, the production stoppage affected replacement costs offered by the insurance companies.

The 2-liter 320i BMW that I am referring to was a 4-cylinder vehicle that was produced from 1976 to 1982/3 for US spec cars. After that, BMW still made a 320i US spec car but the engine was a 1.8 liter 4 cylinder instead of the 2-liter.
You are correct though that European markets had a 3 series BMW with the 6-cylinder engine. I believe that it was a 323. All of the ones here ran like stink and most German drivers had chrome badges that indicated that their cars were 316 / 318 / 320 series cars not the ‘bigger’ six

Im with Greg. Im just not so sure about the future.

Usually, I would be thinking: "just imagine the next one" but I have very strong, and mixed, feelings on the recent designs.

I hate to admit it, but if they put another logo on the new designs I might quickly write them off.

I expect the new cars to drive very well, but Im just not so sure. I think I would have liked to see BMW be more evolutionary in their approach- at least with what I would call their traditional models- go nuts with the Z4- OK, but please dont do it in the 3,5,7. thats my 2 cents. Its frustrating because Im going back and forth on this.

34 is just a random number assigned to me. Since there are millions of Kevin's out there ... thought that adding 034 to end of my name would lessen the "User Name Already Taken" messages.

I am 26, over the mid-point and headed fast to 30. I should be able to get a E60 M5 if I play my cards right. We'll see!!
