Problems with my M5

Hi everyone,

I have as we speak got my beast back from the BMW dealership
garage. I had a problem with my 1999 M5, when I pushed my
beast to 6400 rpm, the engine wasenīt running properly.
The engine was misfireing and lost power. I was devastated and thought my car had a serious problem. I took the car to the BMW dealership and they hooked upp the computer to scane the engine.

At the first look they didnīt find any problems, but the coputer had logged a failure at cylinder No 1. After an hour the cheif mechanic made som phone calls and found out that it could be loose parts in the cat. They have had experienced the same problem with an other car, that they had striped down in to molecules for a cost of 10000$ before the found out the cat problem. So they banged whith their fists on the cats and the exhaust to check for any loos parts. The cats was ok but Iīv
heard some rattling noise when the engine was cold. They found out that the distance between the exhaust and the sheild to the rear of the cats was to narrow. They bend the shild a littel bit so
the exhaust didnīt rested against it.

The last thing they did was to upgrade the ECU and did the trick.
The car is running perfect.

Now is the summer knocking on our door, and I hope u all
get a dry summer with perfect driving conditions.

Best Regards
Matte

Wow I knew we were getting ready to 'spring' forward on time soon, I guess you all just went forward on the season too in Sweden
Hope your summer is full of M5 time.

Glad to see it all worked out. Was it covered by the warranty even though the car is a '99 model? If not, what did the whole thing cost?
