Break-in complete! DSP amp recall?

10 days of ownership and 1400 miles...

Finally got to REALLY drive the M5...life beyond 5000 rpm is good indeed. Had the DSC kick in on a 4-5 shift at 6000 rpm on cold pavement. Nice.

While changing all the fluids, the dealership performed a recall on the DSP amplifier. Anyone else had this done? Stereo was working fine in my estimation.

Hey Doc, question please..........

Your car is a 2003 model, right????
If so, I wonder if my car is included in this "recall" for the DSP amp, since my car is a 03 model as well. My car however just came in to the country, since it was a JAN. production model. I wonder if this will make a difference with the recall situation???
Any thoughts on this? Thank you.
Robert

Yes, mine is an '03. I would check with your dealer on this subject....I had never heard of this recall until yesterday.

I believe there is a recall for 2003 M5s for DSP. A while back my NAV screen shut down and wouldn't turn on. Additionally, my speakers have a hiss to it even when the radio is shut off.

recall

If anyone can find out the details on this if it is a recall would appreciate it since I just took delivery of a 03 M5. Recalls per say are done differently in Europe but there is a similar system. Some times the owner has to tell the miester who then checks his service bulletins to confirm or they view data stored in the key to notify them at service time.
Either way would like to know the story. FYI mine appears to work just fine at this point.

Hopefully if there is a recall, all cars anywhere before delivery are taken care of.

Sanjay,
Was your amp part # 65-12-6-905-119? If so, it was replaced on my '02 back in Sept '02 after I had problems since I took delivery of my car in Feb '02. I had intemittent problems w/ the DSP screen freezing in the off postion, the radio cutting off, no sound (hissing form speakers-heard in back seat), NAV screen frozen, etc. Since the amp.'s replacement, no more problems.

Some recall and TSB titles can be found at:www.alldata.com/TSB/06/0206AJ42.html Search www.alldata.com for other yrs, makes, etc.

Anita,

The part number was not listed on my receipt. I will have to check and get back with you. I did notice a slight hiss from the speakers even w/ the stereo off....need to go check if it's gone now.

Thanks,

Sanjay

Sanjay,
Yeah, there was never a "recall" on it to the best of my knowledge, but there were many discussions back and forth between myself, the dealership and BMW NA about the problems--I was sort of a bummer to have this super nice brand new car with electronic problems. It took a while to find a fix. I had to show up at the dealers with the car running and not allow them to turn it off, because the problem would disappear when you turned the engine off and let someone drive it into the service bay who couldn't find reverse--fun times. I'll be curious to see if it's the same part.

Anita

Simpson Trivia for you (I tried to keep it car related)-In "Beyond Blunderdome", what was the name of the electric car Homer test drove? (question borrowed from my "Homer's Trivia Game")
